Well, Nitogen has definitely sunk my battleship at least once (that I'll admit to in this thread); hence I added a note to the post I made with what I thought (at the time) was a brilliant stroke:

Does that satisfy those who think it's just the congress we have to worry about?

NOTE Added 04/16/09: In response to Nitro's challenge to back this quote up later in this thread, I discovered that there are no video or audio artifacts to prove this full quote actually occurred, and beyond that, the event it was reported to have occurred at is an apparent total fabrication. I posted it having read it at multiple third hand sites without researching it first, which was obviously a bad tactic. When I'm wrong, I'm wrong. However, the video and audio posted in the remainder of the thread show that all of these phrases with the possible exception of the "bans on all semi-automatic guns" portion, have been uttered by Mr. Obama at various times.

It's obvious neither of us will be changing our minds...but it's been a very fun back-and-forth.

Come on people, guns arent about hunting, Do you think this is what he is talking about when he talks about "common sense" ownership as it relates to 2A. Dont believe me, Fox news, drudge report, MCNBC, NPR, etc. go and read his record. It speaks for itself.

I understand what you are saying, but we can't dismiss the hunters and target shooters. They have just as much to lose, They already took away the lead, and are now going after high power rifles. I believe high power large caliber 69 caliber scary smooth bores might be on a Brady list some where. We need to keep them on our side.

Oh, I wasnt leaving them(hunters) out of this....its just one of the many tactics used by the slick talking antigun politicians (hereafter "Mr Obama") to try to smoke and mirrors the issue. Mr Obama had said that his "common sense" approach will not infringe on legal gun owners and then quickly inserted for hunting, etc. A lot of the anti gun crowd that I hear think that the 2nd amendment is about hunting...then they object that there really isnt a need to hunt anymore, therefore I dont need a gun. Its kinda fun when I take them through 2A and show them that it isnt about me skeet shooting or hunting elk.

I'm disappointed. I guess I'm "prepared" then. I'm aware of the issues or I wouldn't even be posting on this forum. I'm aware of the issues or I wouldn't own four handguns or have applied for a CHL. I'm a retired police officer, I worked on the Houston waterfront at night. That's not exactly a "head in the sand" kind of job you know. I've repeatably advocated vigilance, being alert, keeping up with the issues, and still you accuse me of being "complacent"! According to your definition, I'm just as "prepared" as you are. "Awareness is preparedness"? Sounds good in a post signature, but I'm beginning to think it's just bull.

Sorry for getting so carried away, Longtooth. I tried to reign myself in, but too late.

I'm going to go set up a half dozen or so Google alerts to watch for any federal proposed legislation or white papers on Weapons Bans. Anything I find will be used to refuel this thread...back on topic.

I want to apologize in public to Jim Longley for my last rant. I let the issue get personal and I went too far in my response to his posts. When I call for cool heads and then lose mine I guess that makes me a hypocrite. I plead guilty and it won't happen again. Sorry Jim.
