NRA board election

#1

Post by jframe.38 »

....So I just got my issue of American Rifleman in the mail. This is my first year of being a life member, and being in the country. This will be my first year to vote for the board. (I was in Iraq last year and did not receive my issues of AR and hence didn't vote). I wanted to discuss my thoughts on the election and get others thoughts on the matter.

Here goes sharing my views on the election. I noticed that our own Charles Cotton was on the list. He obviously got my vote. Apart from that I went down the biographies and voted based on the following criteria:

1. Demonstrated success in legislative action on second amendment issues.
2. Ability or demonstrated ability to generate publicity for second amendment issues, (esp if they have fame to lend to subject).
3. Demonstrated standing up to antis especially in traditionally anti states like California, Mass and NY
4. Ability to raise funds or keep the NRA financially successful.

Anyone else want to share what they are looking for when they vote for the board? Anyone want to list the issues that are important to them? Anyone have any names they would specifically like to advocate for?

As an aside, I felt very proud voting. It is one of the better things I did elevating my membership to life before I deployed, and I encourage anyone else here who can to consider becoming a life member too.

I did vote for him and it brought a huge smile to my face to see a familiar name who has done so much for TXCHL on the ballot. :hurry: :clapping:

I would if I had a ballot, but I either don't get to vote, or it hasn't gotten here yet.
I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

The ballot is included in your March issue of American Rifleman. IIRC, eligible to vote are life members, or annual members who have been members for at least five consecutive years.

If you are eligible to vote but did not receive a ballot, you can call the NRA and ask that a ballot be mailed to you.

Another note is that you should vote only for candidates you feel strongly about. There are 36 total candidates this year, and you can vote for up to 25. But it all comes down to a raw count of votes. So you're better off voting not for 25 people, but only for the candidates you most want on the board.

Ah, I'm ineligible then. I've been an annual member for closer to five days.

Are we eligible to vote if we are EPL members? If we are, how do we do it?

Ya know, I'm not sure. And I don't have a copy of the NRA bylaws to look it up (a copy of the bylaws are available to any voting member upon request).

My gut tells me that you probably aren't eligible to vote until the EPL is paid, or until/unless you've otherwise been a member for five continuous years. I'd give 'em a call at 877-NRA-2000 and ask to make sure. If you can't get a quick answer via that main number, try the Membership Division at 800-672-3888.

Charles Cotton has done more for our RKBA and the Texas CHL statutes than anyone I know...and I’ve been around the block a couple of times.

If I could vote for him twice, I would.

NRA eligible voters: Charles Cotton.

Period.
