I dont expect them to be experts but do expect them to consult experts before spewing their crap in public. I would never speak in public on an issue I havent had researched by my people. I would also fire the researcher that gave me the info on heat seeking deer cookers.

I'd expect them to become familiar with the subject matter of legislation they file. They don't need to be expert on "everything" but...

For Example:

if they propose a new law outlawing owning say Labrador retrievers because of a dwindling duck population, they should have some fact to show that duck populations are affected by that breed of dog rather than base a new law on a picture they saw on the Interwebs of a dog with a duck in its mouth (which a licensed hunter legally shot.) [Fallacy of false cause]

I tweeted Al Gore today about how silly the so-called scientists must feel who did the Galveston Study claiming global warming exists because the sea is now higher on the shore than it used to be, while disregarding that pumping water and oil from underground made the land subside, not the Sea to rise.....

I am fascinated by this and can’t seem to let it go. :deadhorse:

Do you think that someone gave her this information or do you think she just made it up? If anyone watches the informational channels on TV they should know that a “heat seeking bullet” does not exist. I don’t even remember seeing this in a movie, and Hollywood is notorious for taking liberties with physics and the properties of weapons.

Do you think she realizes how ignorant she appears to anyone that has ever served in the military and/or knows anything at all about firearms? Do you think she even cares?

Ignorance is not knowing about something. Stupid is not being aware you don’t know.

I just realized, we need a stupid smiley on here to use for politicians.

Can't remember the name of it.
I remember a Tom Selleck movie where he is a cop charged with handling robots gone haywire. The bad guy (Gene Simmons, I think) has special ammo for his gun which is not only heat seeking, but fire and forget capable. The bullets would whiz around 90 degree corners and explode like a mini grenade.......interesting special effects though....
Much as I hate to admit it, I have to agree with them on one point ONLY. I can't think of anything (organic) I would legally hunt with a .50 cal. So what? If I have a firearm does that mean I MUST hunt? I have to say that I am grateful for these women speaking out like they do....it makes it easier to spot idiocy when there is an audible alarm......kind of like the back-up alarm on garbage trucks....... BTW Love the smiley!:

Runaway. And it wasn't heat seeking but a DNA "Radar" so it would seek out your intended target. Those spidery robots were reeeeeaaaaaallllly creepy.

I suppose it is not nice to make fun of the intellectually challenged but I think this is so funny, I posted it on the NRA facebook site and sent it out to a bunch of people on my mailing list with the comment: Want to see the epitome of ignorance? Check out Carolyn McCarthy at, and gave the web sites.

No one has attempted to answer my questions.
God Bless America, and please hurry.

This award is presented to Rep. Carolyn McCarthy for demonstrating her ignorance to the world and therefore casting doubt on all of her “public service”.

The more experience I get in daily carry and working with firearms, the more I realize how little MANY people know, even people that profess to know a lot. There are almost as many wives tales about firearms as there are about illnesses and healthcare.

As I get older and more cynical, I realize how few people actually "think" instead of just waiting to be spoonfed what they should be "thinking". :banghead:

I'm sorry but I think you are way wrong. You are thinking about the 50 machinegun round which is used in """sniper rifles""". 50 cal and above is used in black powder rifles all the time. It was even used in some of the larger hunting rifles, ie. 500 nitro express. That statement makes it sound like the hunter that stated we don't need anything larger than a 5 round magazine. Never used more than 2 shots to kill a deer. I am not cutting you down, just statements like that in an unguarded minute are what the anti's tend to use as fact.

:iagree: I was being a bit facetious there. I had a brief mental image of somebody taking a shot with a macmillan (sp?) or barrett at a squirrel from 900+ yards.... And yes I was referring to the .50 cal machine gun round. In the video they had the "sniper" rifle on the table and that was the cartridge on display. I do know and/or have heard of some who have hunted bear and elk with larger black powder calibers. My point about the .50 cal BMG round is that long distance target shooting is every bit as much of a valid reason to own and use a weapon as hunting is. So in a constructive direction, maybe some of their constituents should invite them to a match sometime and let them learn first-hand what they are talking about. They wouldn't dare turn down a "challenge" that could certainly be publicized to discredit them. Who knows, they might even convert (I'm not holding my breath on that one). At the very least they would see that we aren't a bunch of wild-eyed fanatics bent on anarchy and destruction...... :patriot:

You have the right of it. It's been so long since I saw the movie I had forgotten that. :tiphat: Tongue-in-cheek question......How would a "domestic" army invade? *grin* I take your point, but I consider war to be a in a vastly differnt category from hunting. Hunting provides food and/or trophies (for those so inclined), war provides carrion, carnage, and destruction. Hopefully, in the end something good is attained, but not always.

But, but what about a war on zombies. Don't you "hunt" zombies?!? :smilelol5:
It depends. Assuming they don't break the first law of thermodynamics (you don't get something for nothing), they should eventually die out due to starvation. If they can hunt other animals to feed on, then they need to be hunted. With our technological advancements, there is a good chance humans could create something that turns humans or other animals into zombies. Of course in the chance that we do create something like this, this is probably would would actually happen compared to what happens in the movies:

Alt Text: Let's get dinner after we promptly destroy all the X-7 we've manufactured.
Source: XKCD by Randall Munroe (same guy in my signature below)

To kinda get back on topic: Heat-seaking bullets probably wouldn't work on zombies very well. In most thought-up scenarios, zombies have an extremely slow if non-existent metabolism and thus wouldn't generate body heat.
