I and many others were forced to pay into Social Security and Medicare for about twice as many years as you've been alive, Bucko. What we Seniors get now is not an entitlement it is a poor return on investments.74novaman wrote:Don't make this a generational thing.
There are producers and moochers. Age doesn't matter.
Plenty of senior citizens who will fall all over themselves to vote for Obama if he tells them the Republicans want to take away their social security and medicare.
There are also a lot of people in the younger generation who have done their time in Afghanistan or Iraq, or work very hard to NOT depend on anyone. I have friends that have died over there. Yes, the WW2 generation made some truly humbling sacrifices. But don't discount what the under 30 crowd has done since the War on Terror began.
Laying the "gimme" mentality at the feet of us youngsters is just flat out wrong and frankly, insulting.
The entitlement society was first established by FDR. Then our parents generation voted in LBJ who declared war on poverty and created even more entitlements. So don't act like ours is the first generation to have lousy parasites. Far from it.
An entitlement is the car that some parents give their kids and room and board and college tuition and clothes, etc., etc. Your parents may have voted in LBJ. My parents (RIP) worked and voted long before your parents were born.
Speaking of Afghanistan and Iraq, where and when did you serve?

Well, if he makes it the 51st state, the 2nd amendment would still apply. Someone would point out that there's a space non-weaponization treaty, but our constitution supersedes treaties. I might support a statewide ban an AP ammo, though, until the walls are sufficiently, um, A'd...Oldgringo wrote: It'll be too late for me but will you younger CH licensees be allowed to carry on the moon?

Say it ain't so.
(The only reason we couldn't achieve the founding of a moon colony by 2020 is that it'd be expensive and I think most people would say that paying down the national debt is more important. With the possible exception of growing food, everything is a solved problem. Granted, some of the solutions are expensive, but they're still solutions. There'd have to be several heavy lifts to get all the machinery up there. Once that's done though, they can mine & refine whatever building materials they need from the moon.)
I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

There are a lot of young single workers living in apartments who pay a higher total income tax rate than older married couples living in the suburbs with kids. The white picket fence crowd will act all upset if you point out they're being subsidized by those youngsters paying a higher tax rate, but it doesn't change the math. I think a flat tax with no progressive/socialist trickery is the only way to get everyone to pay their fair share.

There's a lot to be said for a flat tax. Simplifies the tax code, makes everybody put some skin into the game...Hoosier Daddy wrote: I think a flat tax with no progressive/socialist trickery is the only way to get everyone to pay their fair share.
I could support someone who advocated a well thought out tax reform plan.
Remember the second plank of Marx's communism manifesto....a heavy progressive tax.

Re: I'm calling it: Gingrich/Rice in 2012
Only problem with the flat tax scheme is that it will hit Seniors who are already on a fixed income (most less than enough to pay any tax at all now). Unless there is a minimum (as now) to pay any tax at all, thereby continuing no tax at all for most Seniors, it will not be received favorably by Seniors who are a large voting group.
Now there is a big difference between a flat tax (with a minimum income requirement) and a National Sales tax which would require Seniors to pay a tax on everything they buy.
So, when these polcats.......Politicians.......talk about a Flat Tax -OR- National Sales Tax, be very sure you know which one they are REALLY talking about. Seniors will NEVER vote for a National Sales Tax.

That's all I can do is laugh. The Republican primary has become a joke.Word started leaking out in Las Vegas earlier that Donald Trump's "major announcement" is to back Newt Gingrich, and sources are confirming it to POLITICO.
The announcement is expected to come at an 11:30 a.m. press conference tomorrow that The Donald is holding.

Now, wait a sec...I kind of regard him as the anti-Chuck Norris. And Chuck endorsed Newt too. Perhaps Newt really is the one that will bring balance to the force? The Annoyed Man wrote:Well, Newt's candidacy has just been sunk......
