BOYCOTT GROUPON

As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

Its just shocking they would take such a risky action. I've been reading articles about them for the last year about how poorly they are performing and how much money they are losing. If they weren't in trouble before this certainly isn't going to help them.

They probably believe the media when it says the "majority" of the public wants more gun laws. The entire thing is polarizing the nation even further and reminds me of the behavior of sharks when they smell blood. It is the blood of patriots they smell. That is what is sad.

Anyone buy that "groupon" for the Houston Beer Festival a couple years ago? You know, the one where non-groupon attendees walked right in without a line, and groupon holders waited for 2 hours in a line that wrapped around an entire city block? Ya... that was the last time I was grouponned.

I wrote them and let them know I wouldn't be using them anymore.
My posts on this website are worth every cent you paid me for them.

My letter:
I would like to delete my groupon account. While my family has enjoyed many of your deals, we will not patronize a business that is such an anti-firearm mentality that you will refuse to work with gun-related organizations.

I am a human resources professional with one of the largest-non profits in the country and, as a responsible firearm owner, am extremely disappointed to find that your organization has taken such a political stance, especially when your organization is doing so poorly. While I'm sorry to no longer have access to your "deals," my conscience will not allow me to give business to a company such as yours.

Please delete my account effective immediately. I will encourage each of my friends, family, and coworkers to do the same.

Regards,
Ark03
The response, 48 hours later:
Hi Ark03,

Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us.

We understand that this is a sensitive topic, and that some of our customers may not agree with our choice to pause the promotion of firearm-related deals. Groupon has always aimed to offer a diverse range of products and services to meet the various tastes and interests of our subscribers. However, at this time, enough customers and merchants have voiced their opinions that we believe a hiatus is warranted.

Please note that we have never sold guns, and this hiatus only applies to firearm-related deals including shooting ranges, clay pigeon shooting, and concealed weapons training classes. We have not made a final determination regarding this category -- we are simply taking a break and may reevaluate in the future.

Per your request, I've unsubscribed this email address and deleted your account. You will stop receiving Groupon promotional emails within 48 hours.

We genuinely appreciate your opinion and the feedback you've given us. I'll be sure to share your comments with the appropriate people.

Regards,

Kevin K.

Anyone think that its interesting they used the word "aimed" on their responses, doesn't seem to be very sensitiveness to those that would be offended.... Yet they choose to honor their feelings to remove the services that offend...

Hi Brian,

Thanks for your submission! Although we typically respond to most emails in less than 24 hours, we're running a little behind right now. You should hear from us in about 48 hours. Sorry in advance for the delay!

Hmm you think they are seeing a lot feed back due to this poor choice?

I have asked three times to be removed from their mailing list and yet keep getting offers. I wrote a forth time last night and reminded them of the reason. I said I am glad business is so good for them that they can afford to alienate a majority of Texans since most of us do own guns. :headscratch

I've had that problem with other cancellations. I usually send this:

"To Whom it concerns:
I have requested removal from your mailings [x times] and yet continue to receive these unwanted emails. You are in violation of U.S.C. 7701, et seq. (CAN-SPAM Act of 2003). Failure to remove me from your list will result in the reporting of the violation to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and potential legal action.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]"

Its worked wonders for me multiple times in the past.

I could not simply log into my account and change the email preferences because I did not have an active account. I had to activate the account "first". I just wanted them to stop sending me offers. Since that was apparently too much to ask, I did activate it, unchecked the offers option, and now have another request in to deactivate the account.

No, write to them and tell them why you are cancelling your account... make the customer service reps work, and log all our outrage. I don't expect Groupon to change their mind, but perhaps other companies may take note...

Exactly, don't do the work for them. Plus, they won't know the 'why'.

I got a brief answer letting me know my account had been "removed". It wasn't a canned polite one, just matter of fact. I think they are getting the message :biggrinjester:
