The Texas Governor is not a particularly powerful position, and instead of "governing" which most real Texan find offensive and off-putting, it's something to do that has potential for real good, instead of constantly meddling and harassing honest citizens, "governing."myntalfloss wrote:Rest assured, he will be.jb2012 wrote:Why is he not running for presidency?
With all the issues going on here in Texas, I think it would be more appropriate for him to spend a little more time governing our state, hence the term Governor. It's a absolute waste of taxpayers money.
But hey, it gets him out of the state, so it's not all bad.
We don't require a lot of governing here. The Lege is only in session briefly, so there is not a lot of bill-signing to be done in off years. Many prefer the Coolidgean model to the frenetic "Moonbeam" model that is devastating California. As Will Rogers said of Coolidge, "he didn't do a thing for the country, and that's exactly what we needed." That's a standard Texas Governors should emulate and aspire to.
As Attorney General, Abbott said that, when asked what his job entails, "it’s gotten simplified. I go into the office in the morning, I sue Barack Obama, and then I go home."
