Squirrels... I hate those things. There're all cute and fluffy outside, but let one accidentally fall down your chimney & get trapped in your house while you're out of town for two weeks, and then see how you feel about them...bilgerat57 wrote:Much as I hate to admit it, I have to agree with them on one point ONLY. I know I shouldn't laugh at this, but I have this mental pic of a deranged rambo-type conducting a world-wide campaign of slaughter of all the squirrels of the world....

Oh sure, laugh it up! You won't be smiling when your friend drops you off after you fly into town and you're exhausted from the long day and you go into the kitchen to get a drink of water because airplane air has something like -%500 relative humidity, and a little brown ball of claws and fury launches itself at you from its hiding place on the brown counter top and leads you on an hour-long horseless steeplechase throughout the house, pooing everywhere it goes. Trust me when I say that .50 BMG HP, AP, and any-other-P bullets are too good for those stinkin' tree-and-occasionally-chimney rats!bilgerat57 wrote:I know I shouldn't laugh at this, but I have this mental pic of a deranged rambo-type conducting a world-wide campaign of slaughter of all the squirrels of the world....
(Really, I just tell this story to get a laugh. It did happen though.)

I sympathize, even while I'm rolling on the floor holding my side from laughing so hard. The wife ran for the bathroom, almost breaking her neck tripping over the dogs........ That kind of event is why I have 1. A glass door over the front of the fireplace, 2. a Boston terrier to send in first, and 3. A sheridan .20 caliber pump up pellet rifle.

I think ignorance is a big part of it, but it doesn't really matter and the anti's know it: they don't care whether what they say is true or not and they don't care what people who know about firearms think --their entire position is based on an appeal to ignorance, and their audience is composed of those who are emotionally opposed to gun ownership and seek claims that support their beliefs (truth is not a factor), and those who are ignorant about firearms and can be influenced by those who makes claims to having some kind of authority on the subject, like congresswomen and the Brady Bunch. In other words, they only appear foolish to those who are informed, and those who are informed are generally part of their opposition anyway, so it doesn't matter.VoiceofReason wrote:I am fascinated by this and can’t seem to let it go.
Do you think that someone gave her this information or do you think she just made it up? If anyone watches the informational channels on TV they should know that a “heat seeking bullet” does not exist. I don’t even remember seeing this in a movie, and Hollywood is notorious for taking liberties with physics and the properties of weapons.
Do you think she realizes how ignorant she appears to anyone that has ever served in the military and/or knows anything at all about firearms? Do you think she even cares?
Ignorance is not knowing about something. Stupid is not being aware you don’t know.
I just realized, we need a stupid smiley on here to use for politicians.

40 years ago or more, comments like these two women made would have been met with a storm of derision. WWII, Korean war, and Vietnam veterans were so numerous that the larger portion of our citizenry had at least a passing familiarity with weapons or had close contact with someone who did. Less and less of our population has any experience with firearms aside from the magic hollywood weapon that never hits the good guy (seriously), and never misses the bad guy, and seldom needs to be reloaded. The ignorance displayed by these political fugures would be comical if not for the fact that many people depend upon them to fill a leadership role. We need a way to educate these kind of people, even if they are anti-gun. At least they would have an educated opinion to form their anti-gun platform with. In a way I like having ill-informed opponents. But then again an opponent is an opponent regardless of where they get their beliefs. I wish the answer was as easy to identify as the problem is.......

Don’t tell them that their strategy doesn’t seem to be working. By the looks of the numbers recently, fewer people support enacting more gun control laws than ever before---well at least in my lifetime.
Maybe the web is actually helping people become better informed?

Those statements are the most ignorant things I have heard in a very long while. How does someone so stupid keep getting elected?
Is it possible that these women are the smartest people in their district, and so rightfully hold a position of prestige?
