I definitely support a peaceful protest and will definitely attend. My only concern is has this protest been properly vetted?

Doesn't an official protest require special permits and proper notice to the local government?

I know what some will say" I don't need permission...." as they are hauled off to jail for unlawful assembly. Things could turn into a fiasco really quick if this is not done properly.

I would like to have Mr. Cotton or someone who knows about this kind of thing to weigh in.

If it was organized by the NRA or the TSRA I would have no doubt as to it's legitimacy or legality. Normally protest organizers have a predetermined organized plan on how and what message to deliver and a organizers to direct the protest.

A bunch of random gun owners with signs and no cohesive message shouting and getting emotional would not reflect well on us. This needs to be done, but done correctly.

Let's all plan to attend but do our homework on what exactly is planned by organizers and how this thing is likely to turn out.

Consider carpools from other metro areas.

We have a family situation that may prevent me from going, but if somebody is leaving from NE Tarrant county (especially Keller / fa north Fot Worth / Alliance / Denton / Trophy Club) and has an extra seat , feel free to PM me. I can only go if we do it all in one day... assuming the other issues are taken care of.

Wow, I was very discouraged that no one commented on my other thread about the demonstration, I had no idea there was another thread running! Very cool.

The organizer (Eric) was contacted by nutnfancy Tuesday night and whoa this thing really is taking off after he made his video.

In regards to permits, originally the way the protest was setup non was required. However, this thing seems to be changing by the hour and last I talked to Eric one was being applied for to hold the protest actually on the steps of the state capital. We will see. Eric has literally been working almost every hour he is awake making phone calls and trying to iron out details. There might be a need for administrative help of some kind. I am out of the country right now so I will follow up with him when I get back. This was all literally put together a week ago. Much to be done!

not changed ... apparently there are 2 different rallies being promoted around

so I posted the other for people interested but unable /not going to one ...

that is all I know about them is I've seen two different dates so I assume two orgs had idea but on diff dates?

I have a couple things going on; medical surgery type thing near one of the dates I read some others can't make "it" and so trying to post both dates for options ...

Sadly work has me leaving today for the UK andwork willl not be back till the end on Jan. on the bright side, I am planning a one man campaign to convince as many Brits as possible to bring P. Morgan back home

I may come though I am not sure yet. I have to check availability with the director of social activities (aka, the wife).

Going or not though, I do have a concern about carrying at an event like that. I know we can carry, but what is the risk of antis who start randomly accusing the CHLers in the group of "brandishing" their weapons? If I were an evil anti and I saw a pro-gun group protesting, one of the things I would do is start hollering that some of them were intentionally exposing their concealed weapons to get them arrested and hauled off to jail.

Planning to be there. Yes, you can carry in the Capitol - just show your CHL to the person at the metal detectors, they'll scan it, then let you walk around.

Are you sure about that? Pretty sure you can carry outside but going through the metal detectors?? Not sure about that. Also, will there be any legislators there on a Saturday? A face-to-face meeting with your House Rep/Senate Rep is always better than an e-mail.
