Senate Bill 2099

Senate bill 2099.

Has any one heard about this. I hope it is not true, or at least gets squashed, but with the current administration, I could believe they would try something like this.

Senate Bill SB-2099 will require us to put on our 2009 1040 federal tax form all guns that you have or own. It may require fingerprints and a tax of $50 per gun.

This bill was introduced on Feb.. 24. This bill will become public
knowledge 30 days after it is voted into law. This is an amendment to
the Internal Revenue Act of 1986. This means that the Finance
Committee can pass this without the Senate voting on it at all.

The full text of the proposed amendment is on the U.S.
Senate homepage, http://www.senate.gov/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; <http://www.senate.gov/> You can find the bill by doing
a search by the bill number, SB-2099.

The bill was introduced on 2/24, but in the year 2000 as (S. 2009 IS) by Senator Jack Reed. it only garnered 2 co-sponsors and eventually just died.
Here is the link to it. http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d106:s.02099" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;:

There is no such SB2099 in the current 111th congress.

I have to wonder here (tin foil hat warning) if the antis aren't sending out some of these forwards we call keep getting about this bill or that bill that aren't actually during this session. Hoping to wear out our activism so when they do slip one in this session we won't respond, much like the boy who cried wolf? (tin foil hat off).

Google HR45 Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009. I think this is what OldBoy Shooter is referring to.

Nope. Although I've received both warnings in the same email, they are separate issues of negligible threat.

HR2099, as stated, was introduced in 2000 where it died, forgotten in committee.

HR45 is a personal pledge made to the mother of a murdered youth. It was initially introduced in 2007 and again in 2008 and 2009 and it will continue to be introduced. It has no co-sponsors and isn't likely to see light of day.

I personally wish that efforts weren't wasted on these cries of 'wolf'.

"HR45 Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009"

This is DOA, it is not a threat... if you get an email from anyone "warning" about this, make sure you let them know it's DOA, has no sponsors and isn't anything to worry about.

It's not like there isn't enough to be afraid of, but people insist on spreading this garbage around by forwarding it with out bothering to check it out.

Rule of thumb. If a message about gloom and doom has been forwarded to you its most likely cow manure. or rumor fertilizer.

I know it's bogus, as it's a perrenially filed bill to satisfy a constituent. I'm sure we'll be reading about it again next year when it's filed then.

But it does not help when NRA and TSRA are guilty of spreading the hype, as well. I received email notices about HR45 from:

NRA
1/26, 2/7, 2/15, 2/25, 2/28, 3/8

TSRA
2/9, 2/11, 2/18, 3/4, 4/22

Instead of debunking it and admitting it stood no chance, they gave it credibility.

Just yesterday, I finally received an email from TSRA debunking SB2099. About time!!
