Perry v. White on Campus-carry issue

I just saw a report on KHOU TV Ch. 11 in Houston. They asked Governor Rick Perry and Ex-Houston Mayor Bill White whether they support campus-carry. As expected, Rick Perry clearly and strongly stated his position that CHL's should be able to carry on campus so they can protect not only themselves, but other innocent persons. Bill White said we should leave it up to each school "because they know better." Remember this when his lying political handlers try to say he "really supports the Second Amendment." If Bill White is in the Governor's Mansion if/when campus-carry passes, he will veto it -- on that you can be sure.

Question for Bill White: when did we agree to let a bunch of unelected college administrators decide whether we may exercise our RKBA? If they run a private institution that takes zero money from taxpayers. Ever. Then they get to decide. But when they run a college using my tax dollars, I get to decide. And I decide by not voiting for you, Mr. White.

Bill White's answer precisely describes governmental sanctioning of racism. The best way to allow discrimination against a class of people is by allowing local authorities to decide who gets to do what. In California, that's how they deny the RKBA to people they don't like. Same thing in Chicago. Same thing in many southern states when blacks desperately needed to own firearms to protect their families against attack. When it comes to rights, there should be one rule for all, no exceptions, no special treatment, no unjust denials. Every citizen treated equal under law.

In other words, he wants to keep it as it is now. The schools currently have the option of allowing it. They don't, despite the number of rapes, robberies, etc the students face daily, and he specifically says that he knows this and wants it that way. :grumble

If the CHLer goes to:
-The Mall
-The Movies
-Tx Govn. Ofices
-Public Parks
-ETC., ETC.

They are perfectly OK and good citizens.

---BUT !
If they walk into a school building or classroom Suddenly they transform into a monster, Dangerous to All!!!!!
YET, If they walk OUT of that building/classroom, Suddenly they are OK Good Citizens again.

OBVIOUSLY, We should immediately Destroy all school classrooms/buildings since they are CERTIFIED to be so inherently Dangerous by THE HIGHEST LEVELS OF SCHOOL ADMIN of the schools and colleges themselves.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHY ARE THE SCHOOLS/COLLEGES MAKING UP THE LAW ANYWAY????
OR HAVE ANY SAY AT ALL WHERE CHLers CAN CARRY?
(That should be decided by State of Texas ONLY.) PERIOD!

If we have a CHL issued by the State of Texas then we should NOT have to seek permission from a state school. period.

Schools are NO different than any other State offices AND SHOULD BE FOLLOWING THE EXACT SAME RULES/LAWS.

------------------------------------------------
Utah and others are doing just fine with campus carry.

THERE IS MUCH TO BE DONE IN 2011.

Here is a link to the news story where Perry comes out in support of concealed carry on campus.

Hopefully we can get this passed next legislative session. Last session Republican Rep. Joe Drive authored HB 1893 http://www.legis.state.tx.us/BillLookup ... ill=HB1893 that was supported by a bipartisan majority in the Texas House but was killed at the end of the legislative session due to the Democrats time wasting tactic of "chubbing" to kill the Voter ID bill.

Once the primaries were over, there was no doubt, no contest for me. Rick it is.

While the campus-carry and employer parking lot bills died on the House floor, they did so because the House Calendars Committee "tagged" the bills to keep them from being put on the House Calendar until it was too late for them to come up for debate. We can thank then-Chairman McCall and Rep. Coleman for the failure of these two bills. Thankfully, McCall didn't run for reelection. It is also important to note that the Speaker of the House makes all committee appointments and he also appoints committee chairmen and vice-chairmen. Therefore, if the Speaker doesn't want a bill to get out of the Calendars Committee, it doesn't. Remember that Rep. Joe Straus from San Antonio was elected Speaker of the House by a vote of all Democrats and a handful of Republicans who didn't want Rep. Craddick be return as Speaker.

Thanks for the additional information Charles! To sum it up, lets elect more Conservative Republicans in the Texas House and there will be a better chance of our 2nd amendment bills getting passed due to new leadership or the current leaderships reevaluation of the political situation!

I have a slightly off-topic question - WOAI radio has been running a story almost every hour today about how campus carry is all but dead and WILL NOT be introduced this session after Tuesday's events. They played a clip of a rep. from Arlington (?) who blathered on with misinformation and emotionalism and why we can't allow guns on campus.

She said she wanted to know where he got the gun and why he had it there. I think the answer is obvious - he intended to commit suicide in a rather 'spectacular' way. Of course, she ignored the fact that he wasn't old enough to have a CHL anyway, so this incident has no bearing on denying Campus Carry and only makes it more important.

So, after hearing yesterday that the original sponsor (Driver?) was going to file the bill again, today I hear that it's not got a chance. The reporter implied that this is a widespread feeling. Usually WOAI is pretty balanced, but the last couple of days they have been steering way left on this.

For the next session, will it be Rep. Straus or does Rep. Leo Berman have a chance? Which of the two is more likely to allow a vote on a Campus Carry bill? Has anyone else indicated (by filling the appropriate documentation) they wish to be a challenger for Speaker?

No one has "officially" filed the papers to run for speaker because you can't do that till after the election, although Berman has said he will run.

Rep. Warren Chisum is testing the waters to see if he has the support needed to run for Speaker. Do not expect to see much action on the Speakers race till after the elections though. If the GOP picks up enough seats then the Speakers Race might get going.

Both Chisum and Berman were sponsors of the concealed carry on campus bill, http://www.legis.state.tx.us/BillLookup ... ill=hb1893
