Arizona had enough of the Feds.

A bill (SB1433 ) has been introduced that will create a 12 man committee in Arizona that will be charged with deciding which federal laws to abide by...


"This act serves as a notice and demand to the Congress and the
federal government to cease and desist all activities outside the scope of their constitutionally designated powers."

"THE COMMITTEE SHALL ENSURE THAT THE LEGISLATURE ADOPTS AND ENACTS ALL MEASURES THAT MAY BE NECESSARY TO PREVENT THE ENFORCEMENT OF ANY FEDERAL LAW OR REGULATION NULLIFIED PURSUANT TO THIS SECTION. THE COMMITTEE SHALL ENSURE THAT THE JURISDICTION OF ANY CAUSE OF ACTION BETWEEN THIS STATE AND THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT REGARDING NULLIFICATION OF ANY FEDERAL LEGISLATION, MANDATE OR EXECUTIVE ORDER WITH THE SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES ALONE, AS STATED IN ARTICLE III, SECTION 2, UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION."

If this passes it will obviously be overturned by the Supreme Court at which time the AZ committee of 12 will decide to annul the Supreme Court decision. This political conflict might have the power of not only effectively seceding Arizona but I would be willing to be that a few other States will be watching and most likely come to her aid if conflict did arise.

This should be interesting to follow, and see where it goes and possibly if other States would join in on the idea.

I personally believe it's about time to let the Feds know they have clearly stepped over their bounds. Time for States to take some of their rights back.

If you read the actual words of the Constitution, the powers of the Federal Government are explicitly enumerated. Anything beyond that is literally unconstitutional (regardless of court opinions, or lack thereof) and Arizona is morally and Constitutionally justified in ignoring or bypassing any Federal laws that violate the written words of the Constitution of the United States, as legitimately Amended.

In my personal opinion, no. This isn't like the sectionalism of the 1850s....its not the people "over there" you disagree with, it might be your neighbor right next door. That would be a lot messier than "we're taking our states and going home!".

I wouldn't mind engaging in a little financial war, though.

The wife wants to visit Lake Tahoe. I just gave her a look...she knows how I feel about giving money in any form to commiefornia. She said we could stay on the Nevada side...

I love that Arizona is finally saying "enough is enough". Its a little ridiculous the feds refuse to do the basics, such as SECURING OUR BORDERS, but they've got plenty of time to hassle a state that isn't toeing the federalism uber alles line.

This is great.

We need at least 52 interpretations of federal law: 1 per state, 1 for the District of Columbia, and 1 for the U.S. Supreme Court. Each Supreme Court justice already gets his own say independent of the majority, and the President can issue signing statements. (Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, the Marianas, etc., don't really count).

Then one state can ignore unconstitutional gun laws. Others can ignore the Defense of Marriage Act or the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act. Several more can ignore LEOSA. A few more can legalize marijuana.

What's with that "indivisible" thing in the Pledge of Allegiance?

Way back in 1956, Hungary took exception to the mother state's dictates and decisions. It didn't work out too well for the Hungarians. Czech it out between classes or while on lunch break, etc.

Hungary was never part of the CCCP. It was a member of the Warsaw Pact. The Soviets "saved it from democracy" in 1956.

I do not expect the U.S. federal government to try to use military force against a state, and I would not expect the military to obey such an unlawful order if issued. That kind of thing would be a disaster for all involved.

It will all be tied up in judicial process and conflicting state and federal legislation for years.

What happened in Hungary in 1956 or unfortunate events in other central European countries in the 20th century will not happen here. Our social, political, and economic environment is very different. Our established system of government is much more stable. Have a little faith.
