Louisiana bill requiring gun serial number to purchase ammo
The LA House has introduced a bill (HB 8) that would require a purchaser of ammunition to bring in the weapon that the ammunition is for so that the clerk can record the serial number of the gun to make sure the gun is not stolen or the serial number is not altered. Link to the HB is here http://www.legis.state.la.us/billdata/s ... did=731569. Can you imaging going into Walmart with all of the guns you plan to buy ammunition for??!!

I have a problem with a line BEFORE they even start numbering the lines!couzin wrote:The LA House has introduced a bill (HB 8) that would require a purchaser of ammunition to bring in the weapon that the ammunition is for so that the clerk can record the serial number of the gun to make sure the gun is not stolen or the serial number is not altered. Wouldn't the ILLEGAL sale of ammunition already be prohibited?WEAPONS/FIREARMS: Prohibits the illegal sale of ammunition

How about having the VIN recorded and checked by gas stations to make sure the vehicle is not stolen. (Hey maybe that's a good way to increase employment; no more self-serve pumping of gas )

Never been thru a TSA checkpoint, or a Walmart receipt check line then, I gather...puma guy wrote:Guilty until you prove yourself innocent is NOT an option in America.

What if someone bought an 80% complete AR lower, finished it and then gave it the s/n 00000001? The lower receiver is the firearm and with the right upper (and magazine insert) could fire just about any round.
Or better yet. What if someone wanted to buy ammo as a present?
I hope this bill gets defeated and we never hear from it again.

This has so many holes in it I'll be surprised if it makes it out of committee.
- Can I buy ammo if don't own a gun?
- You really want to deputize every Wal-Mart clerk to inspect people's firearms?
- Encourages people who never carry their guns to haul them out to the store every time they want to buy ammo.
- Bye, bye mail order sales.
- Lot's of business for Texas and Mississippi border stores...or will that be illegal too?
Even Los Angeles has looser laws than this. Maybe LA is really trying to be like LA...

New Jersey did it. You cannot pump your own gas in that state.puma guy wrote:(Hey maybe that's a good way to increase employment; no more self-serve pumping of gas )

Well, after all, pumping gas is dangerous! Those pumps can just blow up, you know! Think of the children!bigred90gt wrote:New Jersey did it. You cannot pump your own gas in that state.puma guy wrote:(Hey maybe that's a good way to increase employment; no more self-serve pumping of gas )

The author of this bill as in many cases of politicians is totally ignorant of the subject. Many firearms are not numbered or identified by any means other than make and model, sometimes even that is vague. I saw no provision to deal with that . My old Marlin Model 80 would go hungry I guess. At least 'til I could get to Texas
