Read story at:

The sponsor of a bill to allow guns on college campuses abruptly withdrew the bill.
He apparently did not have enough votes to move it forward. Several Republicans asked for amendments to the bill.

The article states that Sen. Wentworth asked that debate resume on Monday.

I have no idea, the article did not detail them.

There was the amendment that deals with high school campuses joined with junior colleges, that Sen. Lucio wanted more time to take to his consituents. He was the 21st vote that was needed to take it to the floor. Sounds like there is some waffling, and will be brought back to discussion on Monday.

Sen. Lucio's staffer who is in charge of the bill is supposed to call me back and let me know what his amendment entails. I am not holding my breath. If she does call back, I'll post on what she says.

Sorry Txkimberman. I must have saw a similar article about the same time you did and posted it just after you. Lol my bad. It's frustrating that a small yet loud antigun base is getting the attention of some senators and causing them to rethink the issue. But I feel there is still hope if we remind them of the stirling track record of chl carriers and that a even bigger number of us support this bill.

No worries mate, we're all on the same side of this issue. :cheers2:

I got the alert (below) from the A&M chapter of SCCC. Sen Duncan's staffer assured me that he *did* support the bill, and *would* be voting in favor of it - went so far as to ask why I was calling, which group had his name on a list to call. I sent that feedback back to Chase, so you might want to refrain from calling that name on the list below.

I had a very good conversation with my own senator's staffer (Gallegos' office). When he determined that I was actually a constituent of Sen Gallegos' office, *and* that I'd spent over 10 years attending, and working, on the UH campus, we wound up having a 5-10 minute conversation. He was very interested to get input from a constituent with relevant experience. I emphasized that Texas CHL holder's 15 year track record of law abiding behavior should be the foundation of any pro/con conversation on the campus carry bill. The same pool of 460,000 CHL holders that behave themselves in every other walk of life aren't suddenly going to turn homicidal when they're in a campus building versus the movie theater. My impression was that he was supportive of the bill, and came away less pessimistic than I was over the weekend :thumbs2:

Dear Campus Carry Supporters,

I want you to take a minute and look at what our opponents are saying on their website:

http://us1.campaign-archive1.com/?u=211 ... e1deb9f74e" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Do you see the headline claiming, “We are SO close”? That’s our opponents claiming that they’re “so close” to defeating the bill for which we’ve worked so hard.

Are you going to let our fear mongering opponents delay campus carry for another two years (or possibly forever)?

Call the offices of these five Senators BEFORE 1:00 PM today, and voice your support for SB 354:

Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr: (512) 463-0127
Senator Mario Gallegos, Jr. (pronounced gah-YAY-goess): (512) 463-0106
Senator Robert Duncan: (512) 463-0128
Senator Chuy Hinojosa (pronounced ee-no-HO-suh): (512) 463-0120
Senator Carlos Uresti: (512) 463-0119

Calling all five will take less than five minutes.

Even if you’ve already called each of these Senators fifteen times, and even if you just called them each fifteen minutes ago, call them again. Be courteous and professional, but be firm about your support for campus carry. Tell them you DON'T want to see an amendment that would allow public colleges to opt out or any amendments exempting whole campuses.

If you want to send faxes (highly recommended), you’ll find the Senators’ fax numbers here: http://www.txdirectory.com/online/txsenate" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Remember, you can use FaxZero.com and MyFax.com to send free faxes from your web browser.

They didn't bring it back up again today? or did he just make a calculated move to hold it to make sure he gets the votes he needs later on this week?
