Obama to push recreation shooter off BLM land

#1

Post by mamabearCali »

We don't have much of this in VA, but yall might out west have a bit more. So while I am concerned it would not effect me directly. In short Obama wants to push shooters off of BLM land because it might scare dog walkers.

This land belongs to ALL of the people. Why should one group dictate to another about recreational use of PUBLIC LAND.

I find this an extremely disturbing trend. To say that long established forms of recreation like shooting, are banned on BLM land is outrageous. We have lots of BLM land in Utah. I hope they don't try it here. This needs to be stopped.

I'll bet that the amount of urbanites who freak out is very small. Maybe only one person complained and the anti-gunners, known for inflating numbers, seized upon it as an opportunity to ban shooting on public land.

As are National Parks ... US Forestry Service/US Fish and Wildlife lands/National Seashores/reserves ... etc

Interesting is that this article's reasons are the gunshots startle people .... but I bet they use the anti-hunting stuff to sneak in anti - CHL too ... in places we can carry now.

If they can't do it before Obama is gone ... Mitt Robamaney can finish the job of signing the gun bans ... he's got experience signing gun bans and supported the Brady Bill.

Let us hope not--Romney is slightly better than Obama, but that is a very light slight. Since Newt is on the rise is he any better on guns?

My point exactly.

Gunshots do startle people. At least they startle me; especially, if I'm not expecting to hear a ". 45 caliber loudenboomer". Just sayin'...

This is from a speech he gave at the NRA's national convention in 2011. Seems clear to me.
"The right to bear arms is not about hunting. It's not about target practice ... The right to bear arms is a political right designed to safeguard freedom so that no government can take away from you the rights that God has given you, and it was written by people who had spent their lifetime fighting the greatest empire in the world and they knew that if they had not had the right to bear arms, they would have been enslaved. And they did not want us to be enslaved. And that is why they guaranteed us the right to protect ourselves. It is a political right of the deepest importance to the survival of freedom in America."

Problem is that political types know what to say depending on the audience. As to whether or not they really believe what they are saying or will follow through is another matter entirely. MA doesn't have a very good reputation from a gun rights point of view.

As bad as Obama has been the republicans haven't done much to change my view that they'd have a hard time organizing a good picnic, mush less a successful election campaign. Hope I'm wrong about that but it looks to be a hard fight.

My experience with BLM land is restricted to California, where most of it is desert. Dry, dry desert with nothing but pucker bushes growing on it. ALL of the people I've seen on BLM land were there to shoot. I've never seen a dog-walker on BLM land yet.

Obama is displaying symptoms of brain syphilis.

New Mexico has huge swaths of BLM land.

That's one of the best things about it.

Shooting a .50 cal across a mile + of open space with a sandstone cliff that goes poof as a back stop is an awesome shooting day.

Take that away and I've been to some areas where it's not used for anything else.

I sure miss that about NM. Used to go plinking after school along the Rio Grande, just me and my dog. Good times.

Can't do that in Texas.

As for Mitt, he talks like a conservative, but his track record is moderate at best.
Perry is pretty much the same - runs as a conservative, governs as a moderate.

Does anyone know how much of our gun and ammunition tax the BLM gets?
