Gun control legislation unlikely in wake of Colorado shooting.
Despite events such as the massacre at Columbine High School in 1999, the Beltway sniper spree in 2002, the shooting at Virginia Tech University in 2007 and the Fort Hood, Texas, shooting in 2009, support for gun control has steadily declined throughout the country, with Americans increasingly satisfied with the status quo of gun rights.

When James Holmes decided to go on his murderous rampage, he choose the one Colorado city with the most restrictive gun laws in the state.
Colorado is a shall-issue conceal-carry state. However, city councilmen have banned concealed carry in 13 Colorado cities.
These are the13 Colorado cities that ban concealed carry:
Aurora, Boulder, Broomfield, Colorado Springs, Denver, Englewood, Lakewood, Littleton, Longmont, Northglenn, Pueblo, Thornton, Westminster, Wheat Ridge
And only one city in the entire state has banned having a loaded gun in your car:
That city is Aurora.
So, Colorado may have what some call lax gun laws, but in this case the bad guy made sure he picked the ONE CITY in all of Colorado where he could be almost 100-percent sure that he would not be faced by a good guy permitted to carry a concealed weapon who could have brought him down. All that these heavy gun laws do is keep the guns in the hands of the bad guys and out of the hands of the good ones. Something to think about.

It's ridiculous to me that there are states that allow local cities and town to override state law.
Each state should prevent any changes to statewide laws.
Pennsylvania doesn't allow local restrictions, but they have to constantly fight the City of Pittsburgh over these issues.

I agree with you, but I am having trouble with the notion. I think most of us here believe that the states should have more control over themselves. I know I don't like so much centralized government, but that would seem to go against your statement. It's a thinker.
To the OP, I hope you are right. I bought two more 30 round mags for my AR just in case. Maybe it was because they were on sale though...

fixed it for ya, Philly even makes carrying a package of razor blades(like shick or gilette refils) illegal, the state had to take Philly to court and get an injunction to stop them from disallowing the exercise of the CHL and jailing people

Not that I disbelieve you, but I want to post this to FB...and there are a few non-believers out there who will say it, so I'll cut them off: what is the source for this info? That way, I can post a link and shut them up before they even start running their yaps...thanks in advance...and I'm NOT surprised in the least.

Colorado like texas has a state pre emtpion law but it seems some cities refuse to accept it like Pittsburgh and Philidelphia PA. do the state laws of PA.

I'd dig a little more. I have in laws in Colorado and travel there often and have researched their handgun laws in the past. I think Denver has a ban on Open Carry, but I have never heard from a legal source about any sort of concealed carry ban in any municipality in the state. I'm pretty sure its false.

So I'll be riding through CO in a couple weeks on my motorcycle on my way to Sturgis. Are you saying I can't conceal carry while riding through these cities? This is the first I've heard of this. I have the 2012 edition of "Traveler's guide to the firearm laws of the fifty states" It say's nothing of this.
I would really like to know before I travel through. I'm actually camping a couple nights in the CO Rockies too.

Basically I think that as in many cases you'll beat the rap but not the ride, CO. like Texas has a state preemtion law/rule but like harris county they are going to do what they want, better to beg forgiveness than to ask permission. just stay out of the cities or under the radar if you go into one

I did a little looking around. I think both of you are correct, and so is KeithB. Here's how: those cities DO have ordinances. They are UNENFORCEABLE due to state law preempting the city ordinances. However, those cities SEEM to use their ordinances to "chill" concealed carry, in that it becomes a "beat the rap but not the ride" situation IF you have law-enforcement called on you because somehow it was found that you were carrying...as I have learned by being a member of this forum, just because the law says something, doesn't mean it isn't going to COST YOU to ensure that what it says actually happens...which is truly sickening. My respect for "law and order" has gotten a SEVERE tarnish on it, I am so very sad to say. There ain't one person you can really trust when it comes to that, you know?

Doesn't Colorado have state preemption?

Is this surprising with a Police Chief from New York?
Just check the leaders of the other 12 Cities and see where they are from!
