Bushmaster or Colt ??

I do not know much about these .223's other than I will be putting one of these on My Christmas list.
I know other manufactures of top notch AR's also exists.
ANY input is appreciated.
It looks like Sporting Arms of Lewisville, Texas has the best prices.

I have a Bushmaster M4A3 and it works great. But, if it's on a XMAS list You may want to consider the SIG 556 for an extra $200. I picked one up from Becky at Sporting Arms a few weeks ago. It's piston operated and runs cleaner, and more reliably with less maintenance. Bushmaster makes a piston operated upper as well, but it is more expensive.

That is great news. I'm a die-hard Sig owner anyway and Becky and Tom are my go to people for my NEEDS.

Again, I don't know anything about these pups. Piston-Gas-- I an ignorant of the pros and cons to each. Could you explain a little more or direct me to a site where I can learn the differences.

OK I found it. This link to the Army Times was on HKPro, I just had to search the memory banks to remeber where I found it. They are comparing the HK416 to the AR-15. This is by far the best illustration of the two rifles I have seen, it's pretty cool to watch actually. OK maybe it's becasue I'm simple to amuse .

BTW the HK416 is awesome but for the most part cannot be had by mere mortals. Dealers that have them would rather cut them up and sell the parts kits as they can make a much larger profit that way. FWIW[/url]

Bottom line is that with gas impingement the bolt asembly gets HOT and fouled because the gas is injected into the chamber to send the bolt back. This causes most of the malfunctions in the M series of rifles because the carbon builds up on the working surfaces as well as causes uneven expansion of the working parts. Dust and other junk is drawn into the chamber as the weapon cycles and mixes with the gasses, causing all kinds of further woe.

The only reason gas impingment is still around is because of institutional inertia in the DOD.

I would go with whatever fits your budget...You will be buying plenty of accessories, magazines, lights, lasers, optics...Whatever floats your boat...It will be "your" custom Homeland Defense Rifle...

All of the manufacturers mentioned so far are great...Just keep an open mind and don't let us steer you in a direction that'll make you scratch your head wondering...Huh??? Go with your gut feeling, and you will not go wrong...

One thing, which is a general comment to all of us...It is going to be interesting to see how the 6.8mm line is going to merge into our community...

I've seen some tests (TV and printed media) over this, and people are starting to warm up to this caliber...Just something as well to keep in mind in the future...

Personally, I went with Bushmaster...But that didn't mean I didn't give some of the other manufacturers a fair shake in the process...

I have a bushmaster xm-15 since 2005 but also built my latest AR. IF you feel capable I would recomend building. that way you get exactly what you want. You can buy everything online... just need to do a transfer for a lower reciever.
