Bushmaster or Colt ??

RRA makes a good quality rifle. I've handled lots of 'em and they don't feel much different than the Colts I carried in the Army.

LMT makes real high end stuff too.

If I had the money, here's how I'd build it(assuming you want an M4-type rifle, you can always order something different).

16" LMT M4 Upper, 1/7 twist, CL, flat top, M4 feed ramps
Bravo Co Bolt Carrier Group
Pick a sight(either a Back-Up Iron Sight, or optics)

Then, for the lower, I'd put it together myself. Pick the lower receiver you likes the look of most - I prefer MEGA or POF - and then buy an RRA lower parts kit. Buy a buttstock kit(need the full kit....) and after you assemble everything, you have a complete rifle.

Everything except the lower receiver is mail order......

The beauty of the AR system is its modularity. Buy a quality lower from almost anyone, then you can put on whatever upper floats your boat. And if you're floating your boat in a different body of water on a particular day, you can swap the upper in less than 30 seconds.

The gas piston uppers are definitely better for combat conditions. For ordinary use, they're probably not worth the extra money (but if you've got it, go for it!)

You can have one "firearm" (the lower), and as many uppers as you'd like. With a quick upper switch-out, you can have a varmint gun, a target gun, a close-quarters carbine, or a thousand yard Palma rifle.

The buttstock isn't going to be the same on various purpose-built rifles, and it isn't a quick-swap item. But a good six-position collapsible stock with a cheek rest will serve almost everyone except the specialized target shooters.

I still like the features I have now, the bull barrel, with the AK muzzle break though...
