I usually never carry extra ammo, my edc have always been 6-10+1 but now I carry 5+1. Didn't carry extra mags at first but now I keep an extra 5 rnd in the backpack and a 6 rnd in the car. None extra on my body currently.

I'm thinking of keeping a box of 20 in the glove box and a box 20 or 50 in the back pack.

Whatever I'm carrying, usually a Kahr PM9, I pocket-carry a spare mag in a mag pouch. I check it every morning to make sure the top round isn't walking out. It takes a couple of weeks before there is any noticeable movement but the first round always seems to slowly unseat.

When I first got my CHL I dropped my spare mag into a small zippered pocket in my coat. A day or two later things didn't feel quite right and I discovered I had a magazine and a pocket full of loose rounds. The mag pouches cured that problem.

I assume I don't have to ditch my spare mag to walk past 30.06/30.07/51%, but I think I have to when I enter federal buildings like the Post Office. Which is fine. The Post Office is a certified gun free zone. If a bad person tried to fold, spindle, or mutilate me I would just remind them that's not allowed on the premises. :biggrinjester:

I rarely carry, but that will change soon due to some health issues that slow me down a lot.

Cannot imagine ever carrying extra ammo, but from reading this string of comments maybe I should rethink it.

Still I cannot imagine a threat so powerful that I would still be alive and able to use another magazine.

Glock 23 with two extra mags from a 22. 44 rounds total. Sometimes I carry only one mag though.

And that is fine for you, SA_Steve. You carry whatever firearm and amount of ammo that makes you feel comfortable. Like many other decisions in life, it's a matter of which risks you are willing to manage and which benefits are more meaningful to you.

That you do carry is the important part. What and how you carry are personal choices based on personal decisions.

Well said. This is the reason there is no perfect gun, perfect caliber, or one gun does it all because we all have different likes, dislikes, and needs.

41 rounds on me when carrying my 10mm with several extra mags in my vehicle.

31 to 54 when carrying my .40. With a couple more in the vehicle.

Never less than two spare magazines.

Always have extra ammo available.

Wife calls me the Eternal Boy Scout. Always prepared.

I have spent too many years in the Back Beyond where having stuff to get your self out of trouble was an actual requirement of survival.

mrvmax wrote:I always do, normally two extra. I started carrying a G29 (I love 10mm) and normally I carry two spare mags for my G20 with the 29. That gives me 41 rounds of 10mm ammo for my EDC. I will carry one more mag if I happen to be wearing cargo shorts since I can drop an extra mag in my cargo pocket. If I am travelling I will carry all my spare mags loaded with me in the vehicle and usually a long gun too. I run across numerous people that will only carry their firearm and no extra ammo, I have even talked to some that will only carry a two shot derringer with no extra ammo. I like to be prepared for the worse and hope that I will never need any of it.
Ever have any reliability issues shooting those G20 Mags in the 29? I can't get mine to feed reliably (old style, new lined mags or either with the adapter that fits on the end of the G20 mag).
