Patience Grasshopper. It's been 35 days since I mailed in my packet and 30 days since I got delivery confirmation. I am still waiting on my PIN. I keep reminding myself that I have spent 47 years on this rock pile without one and that it will be here when it arrives. Tough to do but it keeps me sane.
How we conduct ourselves defines us. At the end of the day we answer to ourselves. At the end of our days we answer to God.

I just do not understand why some take 30 days and other 45 and yet others 60 days plus to get their license. I had prior legal issues and still got mine in 45 days -door to door.

The Wife is on day 23 with a clean record. I think it is the luck of the draw what administrative person is assigned to processes your application.

I think your right, I have a clean record also. A buddy of mine sent his in over a month after me, and his is done before mine. I think they gave my admin person too much vacation time

Not to sound like a broken record here :deadhorse: but the processing times do seem to fluctuate wildly, with no rhyme or reason.

I can only presume that the CHL section of DPS suffers from a serious manpower shortage. I recall my CHL course instructor (Mark from Top Gun) saying that there are only 3 ladies in Austin that handle all of the CHL applications for the state!!! :ack: That's a ridiculously low number for a state the size of Texas.

I still can't get my head around this 60 day CHL processing period. Whenever I purchase a gun, that FFL background check only takes 10 minutes over the phone.

60 day wait time

#11

Post by endigo »

They are doing more than an FBI backfround check.

They are checking with the local counties where you live and work. They are checking that you don't have any outstanding student loans. They are making sure that your child support and alimony is up to date.

How can you have any pudding if you haven't eaten your meat? :biggrinjester: It all amounts to a "Waiting Period" for a CHL.

 That line reminds me of the old teacher's griping at the very end of Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall.

I hear ya', dude. I realize that DPS has a few databases to consult, I just don't see why it should take them longer than two or three weeks to do so...unless they are, in fact, severely understaffed.
