I would have turned with my weapon toward them rather than away, as they were walking up my drive.

mrvmax is 100% correct. You should call police even if you feel that they are "harmless". You cannot judge intent or opportunity and the police are there to enforce the law. Last time we had these "magazine salespeople" in our development (and they had entered in violation of our policy) we experienced a "crime of opportunity". A resident had left their garage door open (also a violation of the HOA policies) and thereby left expensive belongs unattended. Those belongings were stolen and the perpetrators are long gone. Some residents who had those solicitors come to their door prior to the theft elected not to call police, as they claimed that they feared that the solicitor would "know who called the police". Needless to say it was a very sad comedy of errors and an expensive "lesson learned".

Buncha junkies! Yesterday, I stepped out of a Walgreen's and there was a little girl there with her mom, and her cookie boxes set up on a table right there outside the door. The girl got out one word... "Sir...?" I held out my hand, palm outward, and said "NO!" .......and then I turned to her mom and laughed, apologized, and said that I am down just shy of 90 lbs since last March, and I can't eat just one cookie anymore than you can eat just one potato chip, and the LAST thing I needed was to open a box of those. She and the girl smiled and laughed, and wished me good luck on my continued weight loss.WildBill wrote:I always keep a couple boxes in the freezer ... just in case.Weg wrote:Not wanting to start a fight, but he Thin mints are way better... just sayin.SIRIT wrote:Only Solicitors I ever will talk to are the Girl Scouts because those peanut butter patties are just to dang good! Trefoils - the shortbread ones - and a glass of milk are my weakness.
The just solicited my house a few weeks ago. And they are getting more sophisticated. The mom had a credit card device for her iPhone. So I didn't have to write my one check per year to the GSA.
