He's a great shot! He sure did stop this mother bear in her tracks.

Man what a waste IMO. Poor Bears. And I'm a hunter. Seriously, what is the point in hunting bears? it's not like the meat taste good.
I had the same reaction. I have absolutely no qualms about hunting what you can eat, but trophy hunting disgusts me.

Not to take this too far off topic but:

First lets call it what it is: Killing.

Hunting/Harvesting/Managing/etc. all involve the same thing (taking life) for one purpose or another.

So, what about killing snakes, spiders, houseflies, rodents, etc....?

Few... are the people you will find eating these.

How about predator control, is everyone alright with that? Not much consumption of those meat resources either.

Is the harvest of animals (in order to control their numbers for sake of the entire ecosystem) only O.K. if you can utilize it for a food source?

Good video.

All hunting is about population control. Eat it or not that is the modern reality. I don't hunt bears but have killed a number of wild hogs and other pest animals I don't eat. It is necessary to control their property damage and merciful to control starvation and disease. New Jersey is having problems with bears as a reference to why. Not for me but, necessary.

Yup,

I personally have no desire to take a Bear, Cougar, (or a few other animals)...and I actually consider some animals more regal than others, but...I do not condemn anyone that hunts an animal of their choosing...as long as it is done legally and ethically.

"Killing" is only a part of the process of "hunting" KB

"Hunting" invloves much, much more.

Hunting doesnt always involve "killing", as killing doesnt always mean your "hunting".

I'll agree with you to a point. Call me bias or whatever. I just don't give a crap about snakes, spiders, houseflies. There are plenty out there, and they are usually more bothersome than good.

Now Bears for example are hardly a pest. I just think Bears are such a beautiful majestic animal that really shouldn't be hunted, not to mention they normally don't bother anyone or cause damage to land etc. Now, maybe if we had large numbers of bears equal to our HOG problem here in Texas I'd see it differently.

In every state that allows the hunting of Bear... there are sustainable numbers (as determined by the wildlife biologists of that state), so this shouldn't cause you any alarm.

As numerous as "Hogs in Texas" is akin to saying "Like the stars in the sky", I think only fire-ants outnumber them where I live. We dispatch every hog we see that isn't a sow with a litter.

But, even if hogs were less plentiful....if the Parks and Wildlife division have deemed them (or anything else) "huntable" then I'm fine with it...although I might not wish to hunt a certain animal myself.

Some bears are nice bears, but some bears are mean bears and will kill you just to look at you.

I have had bears stalk me twice. Once was in the Sierras and the other was outside of Kluane Lake. The one at Kluane lake I never saw. The RCMP stopped by my camp, saw the bear, did not see me, collected my gear so I would come into to town to report it, then waited in town for me to show up. They probably saved my life.

A good friend is a long time Ranger in Yellowstone. He has hunted man killers and has reconstructed several attacks. Some attacks were by sows, others were just for fun.

He says most people who are found after a bear attack have bruising on the bottom of their fists. Think about it.

Bears are extremely dangerous and have to be treated with respect.

I once saw a black bear run straight uphill from 10000 feet to 12000 feet without stopping.

The weapon of choice for bears is a model 870 with slugs.
