Can you still wear your magazine?

To clarify, say you go in a place that does not allow firearms so you put the gun in a car safe. Can you keep your extra loaded magazine in its holder on your belt?

We are still debating where all we can carry what types of firearms. :-)

I think that outside of TSA controlled areas, you would be fine to have a spare magazine. Court houses and professional sports arenas that have metal detectors are also going to be right out. By law, however, a magazine does not a firearm make. I think that you could carry about any component other than the serial numbered "lower." (Homemade, non-serial numbered, firearms aside)

IANAL but I think ammo in any form, even those dreaded assault magazines shouldn't be prohibited or even given a second glance unless you walk through a metal detector to some sort of secure location - and even then they may not do more then raise an eyebrow.

Yes, you can, and it would not be illegal, unless there is a specific law addressing ammunition/magazines.

When I finalized my divorce, I went through the metal detector with a spare mag in my pocket. I had disarmed of course, but didn't think to leave the mag in the truck. The officer asked if I had the pistol, I assured him I didn't and he waved me through.

I keep one spare mag in a nylon tool pouch on my belt. I've forgotten about it in the few times I've had to disarm. No problems.

I don't know of any rule or regulation prohibiting it, except maybe on federal property.

I had an issue with bullets at a TSA security checkpoint when I was flying back from Vegas. But ammo is specifically prohibited there.

If you are talking about a generic 30.06 / 30.07 / 51% location, then ammo, magazines, and an empty holster should all be fine. It minimizes the effort needed in re-arming yourself.
