Re: Republican Convention: Cruz supporters planning trouble?
A bit earlier tonight, I read an article from the Financial Times (FT). It was written by a man who seemed to hold great disdain for the "populist masses", and other such utterances, and felt that even more manipulation was needed (though not in those words, of course). He expressed great fear that Mr. Trump may be elected and could actually upset their global apple cart. If an elitist like the man who wrote the article is afraid of Mr. Trump, then that tells me voting for Mr. Trump is the right thing to do.

Re: Republican Convention: Cruz supporters planning trouble?
As I have said before, I hate this election and I still haven't decided how I will vote or not vote.
We had 17 candidates to start with. One of those, Chris Christie, I wouldn't have voted for because he is a Democrat in Republican clothing. A second, Ben Carson, I admire as a man but just didn't think he had the right makeup to be a good President. I could have supported any of the rest of them, other than Trump although early on I would have even supported him. In the primary I supported Cruz although he was not my first or even second choice but was the best left standing.
BTW, I don't think Cruz has much of a future in Republican presidential politics. He has already done way too many things to anger the Republican establishment and if Trump doesn't win, they will control things again in 2020.
Now we are left with Trump, a man who is completely unfit by character and speech to be President. The only thing I see in his favor is his family although they were primarily raised by their respective mothers not their father. Moreover if he acts as President as erratically as he speaks, he could start trade wars that will sink not only our economy but the world economy and could even result in war with China, Russia or both. Finally he seems to want to negotiate with the Democrats on a wide variety of issues and in the past that has only meant caving to the Democrats.
On the other hand, we have Hillary who is also completely unfit to be President by character, positions and track record. Moreover she has blood on her hands from her handling of Libya, Benghazi and her emails, would nominate Supreme Court judges that would kill our Constitution and Bill of Rights over the next 25 years, would continue the racially divisive language and actions that has resulted in an open season on LEOs and would kill our economy through regulations and spending to say nothing of her desire to kill the 2nd Amendment. So there is no way I could ever vote for Hillary.
So I either don't vote for President or I vote for Trump. I have moved closer to voting for Trump because of Pence, his potential picks for the Supreme Court and my view that Hillary can not be allowed to be President. And everytime I get about ready, Trump does something stupid like attacking the hispanic judge, accusing Bush of lying on Iraq (when in fact Trump has been lying about the position he took on Iraq), etc.
So I guess I will wait to see how the rest of the campaign unfolds.
BTW if Hillary wins, it will be because about 35% of the voters through the primary in Indiana voted for Trump. That BTW is a lower percentage than any Republican nominee since Nixon's run in 1968!

Re: Republican Convention: Cruz supporters planning trouble?
My expectation is that Cruz (also my vote in the primary) will focus on conservative values and precepts and on Constitutionalism. I expect him to continue to highlight the abominable disaster that would be Hillary Clinton in the Oval Office.
He may call for Republican Party cohesion and solidarity, though I doubt he will do so in those words. I do not expect him to ever actually state an endorsement of Donald Trump.
I have crows continually visiting my backyard if I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.

Re: Republican Convention: Cruz supporters planning trouble?
I voted for Cruz in the primary because I'm adult. My inner adolescent wanted to vote for Trump just to give elitists a good thumb in the eye.
Now, my inner adolescent is much quieter. We're past the jab in the eye to Karl Rove and company. Now it's America on the line.
There are many ways to vote for Hillary. Abstain, vote for Hillary, vote Green, vote Libertarian, those are all votes for Hillary.
There is, at this point, only one way to vote against She Who Must Not Be President.
If that doesn't make sense, consider there are two kinds of people (at least) who want to take away your guns and mine.
Some people want nothing other than to leap through meadows in pursuit of butterflies, who genuinely just want everybody to get along and think if we would just voluntarily declaw we'd stop scratching each other to bits. They are good people completely wrong, but at least they base their follies on good intentions.
But those are the sort of good intentions paving the many highways to places very bad.
The butterfly-chasers aren't much of a threat to freedom except for one thing. They are tools of the other kind of gun-grabber.
The hypocritical Diane Feinstein who got a handgun license when she thought it was in her best interest but would block anyone else's access to self-defense. Michael Bloomberg who harvests Moms for their money and their numbers. Hillary Clinton, whose views on the 2nd from behind her phalanx of armed security can't be mistaken.
The high minded opposition to guns by the butterfly chasers is impractical and leaves them ripe for picking by more hardened and deliberately evil forces. Their gently ignorant support of true evil is a threat to us all beyond what the butterfly people could imagine.
To any conservative who wants to sit out the Presidential vote for high principle, I hear you, brother. But you're ripe for picking. The wickedness Hillary may twist your good intentions into may surprise you.

Many of us are only trying to postpone the train wreck . As I stated ... I will vote Republican . If we get a brief reprieve then I suppose it's good but the storm IS coming . Everyone here knows the inevitable truth .

Re: Republican Convention: Cruz supporters planning trouble?
Interview with convention protester about two blocks away:
"So you're protesting because you think the Republicans are fascists?"
"Absolutely!"
"That Donald Trump would install a fascist government?"
"No question. It would destroy our country's principles and the Constitution."
"Do you know what fascism means?"
Dear-in-the-headlights...pause. "It's like a conservative ideology revolution or something."
"Actually, it means a radical authoritarian nationalism. Key word "authoritarian." Do you know that the Republican Party stands for smaller federal government and greater empowerment of the people and the individual states? That it stands strongly and strictly for the U.S. Constitution precisely so that no such authoritarianism can ever overtake our country?"
Blank look.
"And that Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party stand for bigger federal government, more federal spending, more federal debt (which currently stands at 105% of the U.S. gross domestic product and would require $154,344 from every single household in the U.S. to pay off, even if it weren't increasing every day), more control over states' rights, and fewer individual rights under the Constitution?"
"That...that can't be right."
"Look it up, son. Do some research. If you're gonna protest, at least do your homework."

Re: Republican Convention: Cruz supporters planning trouble?
I've been a huge Ted Cruz fan since early in the Senate primary. He was my first choice for President. I am very disappointed that he mentioned Trump one time.
The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

Great speech. I hate that he didn't endorse Trump. He is the nominee, and the party needs to be unified.

No crow dinner tonight for me. Net 2.Skiprr wrote:My expectation is that Cruz (also my vote in the primary) will focus on conservative values and precepts and on Constitutionalism. Plus 1.

I think Cruz, much as I respect his ideals, did himself a disservice tonight. I hope he didn't completely shut-down his political aspirations tonight.

I'm seeing tons of comments in the twitterverse (for whatever it's actually worth) concluding that Cruz is basically asking for write ins. Way to go.Charles L. Cotton wrote:I will never vote for Cruz again. He destroyed his political future.

Re: Republican Convention: Cruz supporters planning trouble?
I agree. Cruz raised his hand, promised, yet he broke his promise.
I supported him, voted for him, had great hope for him.
How so disappointing.
I will no longer vote for or support him, he's just another politician. Guess he fooled me.
I am mad and sad.

Re: Republican Convention: Cruz supporters planning trouble?
I'm gonna get flamed for this, but I am incredibly proud of him. I can't believe anyone would expect him to endorse the man who implied his dad had something to do with a Presidential assassination, called him a liar, and a cheater. I will never be a politician because I don't have the temperament for it. I would have punched trump in the face early on in this race.
