Extra mag carry help
Hey guys I would like some suggestions on what to carry an extra mag or two in. I have tried an IWB and didn't really like it and have tried owb but it just sticks out more than I like. I have also tried a snag mag that carries in your pocket but has a pocket clip so it looks like a knife but can get in the way. I want to carry extra ammo but need to find a good system.
Re: Extra mag carry help
I carry one spare magazine in the console of my vehicle and carry a second spare magazine in a horizontal mag carrier. Specifically, this is what I use:cmgee67 wrote:Hey guys I would like some suggestions on what to carry an extra mag or two in. I use a Kershaw knife pouch, got one that fits 1911 mag & one that fits glock mag, been using them for a couple of years, tried several store bought mag holders, but like knife pouches better, no problems & dont get in the way

I bought a nylon tool pouch, similar to the pouches that will hold a Gerber or Leatherman multi-tool. Holds my 10 round compact mag nicely.

Re: Extra mag carry help
I simply pocket carry mine. I keep it in the same pocket as my wallet & I always orient/index the mag so that I can reach in & grab it ready to be inserted. I typically wear looser fitting clothes & it's never been a problem. I can easily access my wallet or mag. Granted, in a real life or death situation, it'll be slower than any other method, but I literally practice drawing it every night to put on my night stand.
Mind you, it's a 15rnd M&P .40 cal mag too, so it's not small. Also, the only issue I ever really encounter is it rotating around to be opposite of my need, but I can feel it immediately if it's not indexed correctly.
I also keep a spare mag in each side of my car in the door's 'map pocket'.

I don't find carrying extra .45 mags IWB uncomfortable. Actually sort of balances the load.
I use this one from TT Gunleather:

Tim is good people. But as with a lot of quality, handmade leather goods, there is a wait time. He also offers a 10% discount to all active LEO, military, and EMS personnel; if that applies, look for the info on the website.

Re: Extra mag carry help
I have always carried my spare mag OWB, support side, in a nylon mag pouch I bought at Walmart. It has a flap with a Velcro closure and looks like a multi-tool puoch.

Does the OWB stick out more than your gun in its holster?cmgee67 wrote:Hey guys I would like some suggestions on what to carry an extra mag or two in. Re: Extra mag carry help
Actually it does because the holster I tried has a big teklock on it and is a Glock 30 mag so it's pretty thick. Believe it or not I can wear my 30 back at 4:00 and hardly show any print. If it's my 26 you don't see anythingC-dub wrote:Does the OWB stick out more than your gun in its holster?cmgee67 wrote:Hey guys I would like some suggestions on what to carry an extra mag or two in. Re: Extra mag carry help
The most comfy for me is horizontal... I've gone to it 90% of the time. I wear it weak side appendix and it's is a natural position, quick to draw from with little a practice and hides easily under any shirt you own.
Used to wear a gerber knife pouch but it's slower and people kept asking for my knife.
Several makers will do horizontal if you ask, and lots of people choose magholder. (I also have some magholder but haven't used them yet.)

Re: Extra mag carry help
I can believe it. My 30SF hardly shows anything when I'm CC. The extra mags are in a Fobus double on the opposite side and stick out even less. My 21SF sticks out a bit more, but no one has asked about it yet and I haven't taken any rides downtown.cmgee67 wrote:Actually it does because the holster I tried has a big teklock on it and is a Glock 30 mag so it's pretty thick.
