working valet. i have seen many guns left in the door compartment. some notify us. some would pull it from glove box and take it with them.
if I know there is a gun in a car i keep it close to keep it safer.

Re: Putting gun away in front of valet parking attendant
I had a situation where a valet wanted to park my car for a fee. It was an open lot.
I had two revolvers in the car I did not want
to tell the valet about the guns. I drove off and parked somewhere else

I am really picky when it comes to my truck regardless of whether or not my pistol is present.OldCurlyWolf wrote:You can always not allow ANY valet to have the keys to your vehicle.Flightmare wrote:I agree. When I have to disarm at work, I take my gun out of my pocket with the holster, then set it in the back seat (vault won't come thru the front of the driver's seat). I then step outside the truck and move to the back and open the door, reach in and lock the gun in the vault. In the same motion, I pick up my laptop and carry it inside. To the outside observer, I'm just getting into the back seat to pick up my laptop to go into work. When I get done with work, I reverse the process.treadlightly wrote:Hmmm. My opinion, not optimal. When I disarm I try to be out of sight.
If I were to go somewhere that would have a valet, I would try to store it before I pulled up to the valet.
I don't.

Ever heard of a valet key. It will open the drivers door and start the car, but will not open the glove compartment. Put the gun there before you pull up to the valet. Lock the glove compartment and give the valet key to the valet.

My glove compartment does not lock, nor does my truck have a valet key.kj5634 wrote:Ever heard of a valet key. Neither does mine, it has crank windows and manual locks. But it's not really a problem, since my wife won't ride with me in it to anywhere they may have valet parking. I have never had to disarm to go anywhere, that had valet parking, and I check Texas 30.06 before going to make sure.

It's worth it for some of us, myself included, to have a drink while carrying. Will Beararms wrote:I don't carry if there is a chance I will have a drink with dinner. I'm not saying you did but it's a subject worth broaching. It's not worth taking the chance if you're carrying.
The odds of me needing to use my pistol in self defense are ridiculously low. I may die of old age having never used deadly force in self defense.
However, the odds of me enjoying a margarita or glass of wine with dinner are fairly high, and if I happen to need my pistol on one of those occasions, it won't do me any good locked up or at home.
And before anyone brings it up, I already know. Lawyers blah blah, civil liability blah blah, some level of impairment blah blah, but at least I may be alive to deal with those consequences.
Of course it's a very personal decision and to each their own, but I always chuckle at the "lock up the gun before I go out to dinner and have a drink" idea. I tend to feel that possibly dying or not being able to save a loved one is a far worse outcome than anything that could happen in court.
All that said, I DO NOT drink a drop in public while open carrying! I conceal because I feel it looks bad.

Just because I have my keys in my pocket doesn't mean I intend to drive anymore than having my pistol in my holster means I intend to shoot.SoConfused wrote:It's worth it for some of us, myself included, to have a drink while carrying. Will Beararms wrote:I don't carry if there is a chance I will have a drink with dinner. In an emergency I can make a judgement call if the need arises.

Re: Putting gun away in front of valet parking attendant
Back to the original topic, to me the answer can be found in a question. Would one take a money bag full of money out of one's pocket and put it away in front of a valet? Even if legal, it is not wise to do it. Common sense should rule before one has to look to the law books.
