What would you recommend glock 43 or shield 9mm?

A buddy of mine has the shield and loves the way it shoots. That being said, both are very reliable and common guns. I would suggest renting one of each at your local gun range and trying them out.

Everyone has their own opinions, with that said:

I have shot, side by side, the following subcompacts
Glock 43
Shield 9mm
XDs 9mm
Walther CCP 9mm
Kimber Solo 9mm

and many other full sized guns during the same exercise.

What I found was:
Shield 9mm was the best feeling (trigger pull and grip feel)
Walther CCP was the easiest for recoil

Glock 43 was not bad, but was not in my top 3 choices if I had to choose.

Glock. Period, end of statement.

I carry a Glock on duty and there is simply no comparison. Clearly the reason just about 98.243% (made up) of law enforcement departments have the Glock as their duty weapon. They simply work and work well!!!

As a side note: please PLEASE don't laugh too hard, but in being 100% honest here. I served for over 10 years active and reserve as an Air Force captain (security forces) and carried the M9 Beretta 92. I freaking love it! Don't laugh!!! Being serious. I shot expert every single time and commissioned officers must qualify every quarter with their issued side arms.

Bottom line: get a Glock. But if you want to remember your military roots get an M9 and clean it often. It'll work!

I think I shoot better with it!

That is the most important deciding factor. Above all else, you want to make darn sure you hit what you are aiming at. That is why I carry a commander length 1911. It is the one gun that I can back the target WAYYYY back and still hit it every time. I did have to get used to the added size and weight, but I have full trust in myself to put rounds on target.

The reason so many departments carry Glock is the price they get from Glock. Apple sells their computers to schools for almost nothing. They do it to create a market for their products. Glock does the same with law enforcement agencies. That doesn't mean Glock is not a decent weapon, but I have only owned one, got it for being officer of the year for my department back in the 90's. Sold it two months later. Just didn't work for me.

The Department issued Colt 45's for duty and gave out Commanders for the prize in prior years. That year, and only that year, they choose to give out the Glock.

The M & P cost less, but what it comes down to is a coin toss. Both a great defense pistols!

I enjoy the Berreta 92 as well. Can't decide if I should use it for carry due to the size but I shoot well with it.

Glock 43.

I'm sure either one would serve you well, but personally I like Glock better. My wife carries 43, we've put around 700 rds through it thus far with only one ftf with Winchester white box 115gr ammo. Fed all duty ammo including some hot +p+ without hiccups.

She has LW extended slide release, tru dot sights and talon grips on her 43, that's all.
