Help with name on license
Ok. So, I was told by a LEO that my name on my license had to match my name on my CHL. Now let's assume my name is "John Doe Unknown."
On my license it states:
John Doe Unknown
On my chl it states:
John D Unknown
He said it can be refused because of this. Is this true? He said because the middle initial can stand for anything.

Re: Help with name on license
Mine doesnt match
Never had an issue
Mine says John James Smith Jr. (example) on LTC
and John J Smith on License (example)
I have renewed both since having LTC
I have needed to show my LTC and License to an officer/sheriff 2 times since then (for accidents where I was rear-ended--- just making sure you dont think im a criminal LOL)
Neither officer/sheriff gave it a 2nd look.

Re: Help with name on license
I'd say that is incorrect. You have no control over what the clerks in Austin type into the system.
Your driver's license number and picture is on the LTC. Should be pretty obvious that they belong to the same person.

If it happens again ask him to cite the statute because you want to read in through to make sure that you are in full compliance.
I had a similar incident happen at Sam's the other day, membership card says "Steve", credit card stays "Stephen." I had to convince the cashier that Steve is actually short for Stephen.

If LEO's aren't smarter than the cashiers at Sam's we're in real trouble.steveincowtown wrote:I had a similar incident happen at Sam's the other day, membership card says "Steve", credit card stays "Stephen." I had to convince the cashier that Steve is actually short for Stephen.

Re: Help with name on license
I got DPS on the phone and they said technically speaking it has to match EXACTLY what the license says. They mentioned it shouldn't matter and that it was the officers discretion. They said I could fill out a change of address form and it would ask me to fill in my name as well. The operator said it was silly that the officer wouldn't just use common sense. So technically, if they wanted to, they could prove its unlawful carry in court. That's how I'm understanding it.

As LTC lists your TX DL ID number on it, when he's holding both he knows they're one and the same person because the ID numbers match.... Surely...

Any of our resident legal beagles around ? I am calling bull on this one. First because there is not legal wording in the penal code that says this, second the LTC is tied to and has the same DL# on it, if the names didn't match like one said John Doe and another said John Smith - maybe, but James Ray Jones and James R. Jones are the same name.

Not a DA in this state that would prosecute this, and I would doubt an officer would want to look so silly as to charge you.Pluto wrote:The operator said it was silly that the officer wouldn't just use common sense. You made me look! Mine is the same on both. This sounds like something a rookie LEO would come up with.
Re: Help with name on license
My LTC is supposed to have the same number as my DL? Or you mean they're tied together in the system? They have different ID numbers on them.Pariah3j wrote:Any of our resident legal beagles around ? Nevermind. I just saw the DL ID on there. Yeah, didn't see that before, so what's the big deal? He said "better hope DPS doesn't stop you" and I told them they had and never questioned it. He just acted surprised and said "well, I'll have to talk with dps then."

Re: Help with name on license
It should have your TX drivers license number on it also. On my CHL (issued before LTC), it says "DL/ID: TX nnnnnn" where "nnnnnn" is actually my TXDL#.Pluto wrote:My LTC is supposed to have the same number as my DL? Yeah, my fault. I over looked it. That's crazy for him to say that then.Pawpaw wrote:It should have your TX drivers license number on it also.
