.38sp Ruger LCR and SD Ammo Used
I would like to know from someone who carries captioned firearm what kind of ammo you use or suggest for SD. I have been looking at Buffalo Bore (BB) standard pressure 158gr heavy or BB 150gr standard pressure heavy full wadcutter (WC). They both get good reviews with the exception of the WC being real dirty. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I use Underwood 125gr +p Gold Dots in my lcr. They are pretty stout for being only .38's.

Federal 38 Special 110gr Hydra Shok in my wife's Ruger LCR 38. Best compromise of effectiveness and recoil for her.

They make that in reduced recoil too. I personally don't shoot +p in my LCR. Too much kick.oljames3 wrote:Federal 38 Special 110gr Hydra Shok in my wife's Ruger LCR 38. Best compromise of effectiveness and recoil for her.

Speer Gold Dot 135 grain "short barrel" recipe. 38+P. Product #23921. What i settled on a few years ago when researching the latest and greatest at the time. Often pretty hard to find. But maybe easier now that the Hildabeast is only walking in the woods.

I carry Speer Gold Dot 125 grain +P JHP in my .38 LCR. For no particular reason other than I like the Gold Dot bullet and this round burns clean and leaves no unburnt powder residue in my pistol. And I had 500 rounds of it on hand when I got my LCR.
I like the Gold Dot bullet because the no-exposed-lead configuration makes for a more positive feed on reloads for me out of my speed strips.
They average 869 fps from my LCR.
If/after I run low on the 125s, I believe I'm going to switch to the 135s based on some reviews I've read.
I carry Speer Gold Dot 125 grain .357 magnum JHP in the .38 LCR's big brothers, the .357 LCR, 2 SP101s, and a GP100.
