Do you wear gloves when cleaning your guns?

I wear them sometimes, but not as often as I probably should. I like the nitrile gloves, they are much tougher than nylon, or latex. I get mine at Home Depot in the paint department. I have several pair hidden away in my get home bag.

True dat! I was with Beiruty at FGC and he lubed my 1911 like it had never been lubed in its life!

If I wear gloves, its while shooting, not while cleaning. But I do wash my hand thoroughly after both activities.

I never think to go get them.
I always wash my hands real well after I finish though.
And make it a point to never eat potato chips while I am doing it.

Cleaning the guns is not a chore for me.
I go to my Happy Place© when I do that.

Box of a hundred. Keep it right on my bench. I'll be in mid-clean, customer comes in, off go the gloves and shop apron and my hands are suitable for a handshake or whatever is required.

Never have yet, in the service we had to soak the 6 barrels from the M134's in carbon remover which would literally freeze your hands and bleach them white when you removed them, I don't remember what it really was but it sure cleaned them great. I bet now you would have to have a bio suit to use that stuff.

I never wear them. I like the way Hoppe's No. 9 makes my hands baby soft.
My wife likes the smell, too!

I've never considered it. I would if handling a real old gun with a delicate finnish. but most of my guns are a pretty hard bluing or stainless. I also whipe my guns down after cleaning with one of those silly rags.

Proabably tetrachloride or trichloroethane. The refinery I worked at produced aromatic hydrocarbons, one of them was pure benzene and all the old timers used it to clean oil and grease from their tools as well as their hands and arms. We don't have numbers on how many died of leukemia!

If you use "Ed's Red" or Hoppe's No. 9 bore-cleaner I recommend gloves. If you check out the ingredients in Ed's Red you will want to use gloves too.

Years ago I worked in a company where they used some chlorinated solvents to clean the rocket propellant off of the tooling.
Many operators washed their hands in it. It worked well.

At the Firestone tire factory in Salinas, CA they used benzene as a solvent in their process. Most of the workers didn't use any PPE when handling them.
I have read that some workers developed leukemia later on in life.

That said, I don't use gloves when I clean my firearms.
Heavy nitrile gloves are the best for handling most chemicals.

Every time. I wear gloves when reloading as well.

I started wearing gloves when I change the oil in my vehicles as well. My stepdad was a mechanic for most of his life, and you'd be shocked at the havoc oil can wreak on your hands over time.
