Ruger American Pistol - Own One?

#1

Post by Abraham »

I'm halfway through a H.45 video and so far from what I've seen this a great pistol.

Among the many things I like is how easily it comes apart for cleaning. It really is modular. You can really get this clean without a billion twist and turns with toothpicks and cotton swabs.

Apparently, it comes with Novak sights - very nice and and easy to see LCI.

The only down side I can see is, it's a very large pistol, but of course the recoil will be lessened, so...

Any of you own one and if so, please give a review.

Thanks!

I don't have the American, but do have an SR9e, which is a predecessor. It is an excellent gun, easy and comfortable to shoot, good sights, short trigger pull. It required a lot of break-in, but it is a budget model. It also does not have a true two-stage trigger, although it is easy to adjust to.

I doubt that the American has either of those minor issues, as it is more upscale, and is a much improved version of the SR9 series.

I have a RA compact in 9mm. Follow up shots are very easy, sights are outstanding, trigger is exactly like my XD. So far it's been flawless, and it's a Ruger, it's rock solid. Got it at Grab A Gun for $339. I saw PSA had the full size for about $250 last week. At that price you'd be crazy to pass it up. :tiphat:

I also have the Compact 9mm... absolutely love this firearm, so much so that I'm likely going to pick up the full size for home/truck. I use the large palm swell and it just molds into my hand. Great acquisition on draw for me. Shoots dead nuts accurate (even when I don't) and has a natural tendency to want to return to target, no twist. It's a little bulkier than other compacts in its class, but I'll take an occasional print and 13/17 rounds over a less than occasional print and 7/8 rounds any day. I also paid $339 for mine at GaG and would have paid more now having had it for a while.

As far as the 45acp, the only issue I have heard of is the guide rod spring popping over the end of the guide rod cap during field stripping. That being said, others have just placed a call to Ruger and had a new one sent out, problem solved.

I'd say go for it.
