Tragic situation. Woman gets attacked by dog and screams for help. Neighbor with CHP responds and tries to shot dog but hit and kills woman instead.

He was supposed to fire a warning shot, then only hit the dog in the paw, only then move in for the head shot. If it was a person with a gun, then you shoot the gun out of their hand....duh...

I doubt he will face charges. It sounds like the family isn't likely to sue him either. Nonetheless, it's incumbent on good Samaritans to be careful and prudent when rendering aid and assistance. This is a tragic situation and shouldn't have ended this way.

I wonder how close he was. I would think using a gun in that situation would require pretty much direct contact with the barrel facing away. I guess somewhere on youtube someone has posted a video about the best way to stop an attacking dog.
