Pretty difficult unfortunately. The last 3 NDs at shows I was at all came from CHL holders....AEA wrote:
Now that I am a CHL Holder, I wouldn't mind their "rules" if they were common sense. Such as......for CHL Holders, Clear/Check you weapon at the check in counter, put your ammo in you pocket (as I did), get the weapon tied and go about your business. Upon leaving, reload wherever you feel safe.
How hard is that?

So they are saying they wont prosecute for tresspass (30.06) if I carry concealed but unloaded?
Another question; I've never been wanded going into the Market Hall show. Is that still the procedure?

I didnt see anyone with a wand.Photoman wrote: Another question; I've never been wanded going into the Market Hall show. Is that still the procedure?
In fact, I actually got "in" without having my gun tied (I thought the checking table was after the ticket taker for some reason)
I popped back behind 'em and let 'em tie my gun. (While the guy pointed it at me while he checked and tied it )
I don't have a problem with the tying with the guns, but I AM going to keep my ammo with me so I can rearm after I leave.
Another one-off question:
Does all the Nazi stuff at gunshows bother anyone else? There was a group of "people" dressed in full Nazi uniforms, with teh swastika armbands and all there when I went on Saturday. I usually wear my IDF T-shirt when I go, because I enjoy the nervous looks I get from the wannabe Nazis.

Nobody really has any idea if a DA will prosecute any given case. If you carry concealed but unloaded you are in violation of the law if it was a valid 30.06 sign and you were carrying under CHL law. As already stated, the law makes no distinction about loaded or unloaded.Photoman wrote:

I myself am NEVER carrying under CHL law at a gun show so 30.06 NEVER applies to me at a gun show.
No metal detectors at any DFW gun shows. They tried it once at Big Town, it was a failure.

It would be enough to keep me from going back. Does this ever happen at the Houston area gun shows?nitrogen wrote: Another one-off question:

I've been to 2 Houston gunshows at the Astrodome, and it was just limited to a table or two of collectibles.
Usually Market Hall was the same way, but on Saturday, it was pretty bad.
When I went to my first gunshow in Phoenix, a neo-Nazi wannabe got into a dustup with me, which pretty much put me off of gunshows for a while till I moved here.
EDIT: Spelling.

Thanks, I've never been to a gun show. I've been meaning to but haven't quite made it yet. Collectibles is one thing. Real live Nazis is quite another. even if they are only wannabeesnitrogen wrote:I've been to 2 Houston gunshows at the Astrodome, and it was just limited to a table or two of collectibles.

The table immediately to the left side of the doors at the Pasadena shows usually have a fellow selling Nazi merchandise. He is always standing there completely alone. I don't know if his purpose is to really sell that junk or make a political statement. I seriously doubt a T-shirt makes these folks nervous, but if it gets on their nerves.......I am all for it!Liberty wrote:It would be enough to keep me from going back. I also noticed the Nazi table at the entrance of the Pasadena show. I actually did a double-take, as I couldn't believe I was actually seeing that.nitrogen wrote:Does all the Nazi stuff at gunshows bother anyone else? I thought about complaining to someone, but wondered who I would complain to, and what it would actually accomplish. I decided that my best approach would be to ignore them--to act as if they aren't even there.

Earlier question was whether 30.06 was posted. Didn't see an answer so I'll chime in.
They were posted with what appeared to be a legal 30.06 sign at the main entrance. Black on white background, English and Spanish, 1 inch letters. I left my gun in the lockbox in my truck.
So, since it was posted, how do they let you carry concealed. Even if your weapon is tied, it's still a concealed hand gun. I guess I'm confused.

Well for one, you are not carrying under CHL law at a gun show, so 30.06 does not apply. And even if it did apply, when they give you your handgun back and let you enter the show, you are getting "effective consent".bpet wrote:So, since it was posted, how do they let you carry concealed. All that quibbling about 30.06, gunshows, and "effective consent" is kinda dangerous. You may be right, but if you test that, you'll have to pay $$ and convince a jury to prove your cause.
Me, well... any gunshow that'll post 30.06 ain't gonna get ANY of my money. They can check guns for sale/trade/showing off, as those aren't personal defense pieces, and have no business being loaded while they're carted about. Conversely, my carry gun has no business being out and handled unless I actually intend to use it. Keeps NDs down, you know.
But no one's gonna tie my carry gun, and no one's gonna take my ammo, not at a gun show. If they can't/won't deal with folks who are actually armed at a -gun show-, then they don't need my money. It's akin to a car show confiscating your license and keys at the door.
One of the local gun show organizers has a sign. "Carrying concealed? KEEP it CONCEALED!" I'm in full agreement. I go to that show every chance I get, and have never witnessed nor heard of an ND there. Everyone assumes everyone else is armed, and no one handles untied guns.
It seems to me that I hear of NDs more often at shows where "all of the guns have been checked," even the carry pieces, than I do at CCW-friendly shows. Wonder why?

Did you ever think about the fact that in regions where many of us live, there are very few, if any, "CCW-freindly" shows? More humans, therfore a higher probability of errors - and the same making news.
And no, "all of the guns have been checked" is, too, often from an under-informed individual - or one with wishfull thinking. The statistics nationwide indicate that NDs happen substantially more frequently with vendors' guns than someone coming through the front door ...
animal cop - the policy can vary from one promoter to another. At Market Hall shows, it is common to have the gun's action tied off, magazine out and carried in an exposed holster - with or without a CHL.
