Things have been getting dicey on the border again and I'm guessing this will get zero national coverage. Stay out of Mexico if possible and keep alert.

Agreed. I have turned down assignments this year in Mexico and have no regrets, just feel very badly for the law abiding innocent civilians there who pay the price for corrupt government and rampant crime. The cartels have deeper pockets than any government at this point, but much of the fault for that lies with progressive Dems here at home.

I've lived in TX since 1981 and I can honestly say I have NEVER heard jaurez called safe. Even when we were recruiting executives to work there, a security detail was part of the package. Maybe it's so commonplace that the violence and corruption has been under reported for a time, but rest assured, me and mine won't ever be going there!

If you stay in the right areas and are not envolved in drugs or guns and Juarez is about like Chicago. I have friends who do business in Juarez on a weekly basis. I also have friends who visit family over there every weekend. I wouldn’t party and raise heck over there like we did in the 70’s. Although killing is on the rise again over there, it is not a War Zone.

We have a national (US) manufacturing technology magazine - we've been asked repeatedly by customers to start a Mexico edition - we actually looked into it ~20 years ago and saw that we would have to have it printed/mailed from Mexico, bribes here, there, etc....so, flash forward to now, more customers wanting this.....NO THANK YOU....I've got a buddy who routinely works down there and the stories...wow...my life is worth MUCH more than the little bit of extra revenue we'd make - our main competitor did start a Mexico edition - their editor is based out of Colombia...go figure....so, it's really a case of robbing Peter to pay Paul, i.e. - the companies (advertisers) are still spending around the same total dollar figure, they've just shifted some to Mexico....now, if I had a bodyguard detail 24-7, if I was armed, armored vehicle, etc....maybe, but I really don't think it's worth it....for me anyways.

There was nothing dangerous about Juarez in 73. Just cheap beer, cheap had liquor and cheap hookers for a young soldier to make a fool of himself with.

I never had a reason to investigate Juarez. However, when the Army National Guard put me back on active duty in 2004, I ran IT for the Texas Joint Counter Drug Taskforce. I read the daily briefings. Scary.

I was born and raised in El Paso; when I was a kid, the family would drive over for cheap cokes and groceries (60's); when a teenager we would go across to drink and party with friends (70's). As a younger man, many of us had propane conversions & tanks on our PU trucks for fuel because you could get it in Juarez cheap; fill up a 100 gallon tank for $30 and drive all month (80's-90's).

I left the area for work reasons; moved to DFW, then Corpus, then San Antonio, now Seguin. I tell people the only way I would cross the border now is if I was tied up in the back of someone's trunk... (but true!)

Yeah, I read their articles also. My wife has family in Mexico that we haven’t visited in many years because of the crime and violence. It’s a shame, too, because although they have humble little family ranch down there, it’s in a scenic, high plains desert area with horses and cows, nice trails and awesome food.

I just came back from visiting one of our store locations in Tornillo. Every one that I talked to that have lived there forever said they will not go across the river. Many of the houses nearest the river in the little border towns have fences all the way around. At dark they make the kids come in and lock the gate.
