GRT - Gordon's Reloading Tool

#1

Post by Hack Job »

I came across a freeware reloading program - Gordon's Reloading Tool. It looks similar to QuickLoad. I thought I'd share the link and check if anyone has used it.

Very interesting and this is the first I've heard of it. I don't have Quik Load on my computer, but I've had others run my data and furnish me a copy. Really excellent tool, but not perfect. Things like time to pressure max, heat of explosion, load density, predicted pressure and velocity are just a few of the data points. If the Gordon's Reloading Tool is as good . . .

It till needs more refinement. If the predicted MV is far away from real MV by more than 5% it is still far off. Right now, it is 10-15% off.
However, once the simulation program is refined, it would surpass QL.

For some reason, internal ballistics programs don't seem to be as popular in the US as Germany. I use QuickLOAD and find it a very useful tool. Gordon's Reloading Tool (GRT) is in the early stages of development but I like the interface better than QL. It has a lot of promise. What they need now is more data (brass, bullet geometries and muzzle velocities. Pressure trace data if you have it) especially on US powders to refine/develop their models.

Go check out their website.

I want the GRT to surpass the QL
I want it to be more accurate in predicting MV and Barrel time.
I want to be Beta Tester
I want to be data provider if I can (MV and load info)

I just downloaded the latest beta. It is 10X better than the first beta. Graphics as before are very cool. More data are in and more features and it seems accurate. I run my load for 243 but with 4064 instead of the new version IMR 4166 and it very very close to the MV I was seeing. That was with no teaks at all.

This app would have a lot of use by me.

Be sure to check out the OBT tool added in this latest beta. Nice touch.

What’s your reasoning? Do you not like QL or do you just like a free alternative?

I just signed for $1/month Patreon membership. As thank you, I got a latest nightly update with not only case diagrams but CIP/SAAMI Chambering diagrams. Plus, your calibrated powder charge/MV values can be shared (uploaded) to GR-LAB in one click.

The App is 10X more actively being developed than QL. In less than a year we got like so many cool features.
It has OBT Calculator auto-load optimizer

Shot Group Image processor
Finding best powder based on your parameters
Burn Speed Chart among all powder in the DB
Black Powder Assistant
Ladder charge Charting
Case and Childbearing dimensions
Of course, Case/Bullet/Powder DB.

What I did not like about QL, is lack of updates

I’m loading a new caliber, 7mm-08 (I just picked up a Savage 510 Striker pistol with 5 barrels/calibers. I currently only load one of those so I’ll get a chance to give GRT some use). I entered data into QL and GRT so I can compare when I chrono it. GRT is a little different in how you enter data but I do like it, I just need to get more familiar with it. I went ahead and supported them on Patreon just to help them get it developed.

Does it have IMR 800-X and/or military pull .510 bullets?
