Scoot over and make room for another one...

#1

Post by Schwartz »

I did the online registration with the state a while back (embarrassingly far back, but still under a year) for the wife and I. I’m the world’s biggest procrastinator…

I finally forced her to the class with me back on Sept. 5th & 6th @ Top Gun which gets a thumbs up from me. Buzz was the instructor for the weekday classes. Interesting guy…

Anyhow, I mailed off the packets and they were received on Sept. 10th. Website still shows Packet Mailed to Applicant so I’m pulling up a barstool and waiting it out here.

To help pass the time (actually it’s more like self torture), I picked up a PF-9. So far, I’m pretty impressed. No issues with recoil and it is surprisingly accurate. Through the 1st 100 rounds, I had 2 failures to feed with WWB FMJ ammo. One on round 47 and another on round 80 something. There was a lot of powder residue built up on the feed ramp so I think that may have been the primary issue. I need to give it a thorough cleaning and buff up the feed ramp.

I’ll update this post as status changes.

Just checked again this morning and...

Application Completed - license issued or certificate active

So if anyone is keeping score, the timeline was:

Packet Received by DPS on Sept. 10th
Processing Application on October 1st
Application Completed - license issued or certificate active on October 23rd

Assuming it shows up before the end of the week, it was a 6-1/2 week turnaround. Guess I can't complain.

I applied for the packet online so I already had my PIN when I mailed it back. I'm not sure if that makes a difference in processing time or not though. Also, Harris County is the only place of work or residence for the past 5 years so that was the only place they needed info from.

Interestingly, my wife's status says:

The data you have submitted indicates you may not be eligible for this service. Please verify the data submitted is correct. If you still cannot proceed, please contact DPS at 1-800-224-5744 or email chl@txdps.state.tx.us for more information.

I did a quick search and it sounds like that may just be a temporary computer problem. If it doesn't work itself out in a few days, I'll given them a call.

I get that error message every time I check. If I enter all the information a second time, I get "processing application".

That's usually what you get when you type in the wrong license number or PIN. Check to make sure you have both correct.

I was using copy/paste so who knows...

I checked just now and it shows "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active."

Weird.
