Anyone personally know of an open range?

#1

Post by SA-TX »

God has blessed me and my family such that I can still take some time away from this craziness in mid-April. After all, given the times, marksmanship might be an important skill. Not to mention the stress relief.

Anyone personally know of a range in Ellis, Hill, Johnson, Navarro counties that you expect to be open 4/11 - 12? Outdoor preferred so the long guns can get some desperately needed use. Will consider expanding to Bosque, Limestone, or McLennan if need be. All in the urban counties seem to be closed. It would be helpful if they also have ammo so I'm not using from my stash. :)

I'd extend an invitation to make it a group event but, you know, that social distancing thing.

When this is in the rear-view mirror, I propose a huge get-together where we can bless those who have just gone back to work. Some sort of picnic, range day, tour, meals, fun (long) weekend. Spend, donate, and tip so America gets back going again. :patriot:

If you're willing to come a little east, Big Rock Gun Club just north of Eustace is still open.

You need a member to bring you and its 10$ per person, unless you want to join and pay the annual fee.

540 Yards max range, though. Some consider that too short to warranty the drive.

PM me around that time if you're interested.

Thanks. We've pushed it 2 weeks due to Easter & another conflict. I appreciate the invitation and will PM you if we decide to head that way.

I bet it is. My little 2 acres definitely isn't enough but it is a decent compromise, all things considered.

The Range at Austin shooting range is open. From their web page: "The retail store and shooting range are open 10 AM to 4 PM." https://www.therangeaustin.com/

The Gun Range Indoor range in Killeen is open, but reduced hours. Pistol to 25 yds and rifle to 50 yds. Retail sales also open. Some LTC classes (reduced size) available, check schedule.

I'm looking at 12 acres right now. It's narrow and very long. I expect neighbors (like me) will be putting houses near the front so I put the hand gun range near the back, and I could do some rifle shooting.

Last I saw, Brazos River Sportsman's Club in Fulshear is open as well.
LOTS of opportunity for social distancing there, as he has several private ranges around his ranch.
Your best option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.
When those fail, aim for center mass.
