Two murders in Houston today.

One was by a related member of the family, probably not helped by Coronavirus.

Unfortunately Mom couldn't make it better when two hooded men shoot and kill a 15 year old.

It is interesting to me that the teen would call their mom rather than 911. Like philip964 said, Mom couldn't make it better this time. Sad story. I hope they catch the shooters. Is it awful that I can't help but wonder if one or both of the boys had some kind of "beef" going with someone? Drugs and gangs are so prevalent these days it is hard not to wonder about it.

Spring, TX.

Toddler murdered in robbery at apartment complex.
Father shot 9 times.

Sounds like the toddler was purposefully murdered in the robbery that netted nothing other than heartbreak.

Wonder if the murderers are out on bail?

Just seems to get worse every day.

Since the alleged perpetrators are not white or Hispanic, will this receive the same media and political attention as little Maleia did? There is now a bronze statue of Maleia.

Murderer of 2 year old arrested, charged with capital murder.

No bronze statue of this little boy.

7 people shot, 3 killed in 4 Houston shootings overnight

https://abc13.com/7-people-shot-in-4-ho ... t/6126661/

"The worst of the bunch involved an ambush on a southeast Houston apartment, where four people were shot and three were killed. The shooting happened off Calhoun and Ward around 1:10 a.m."

So keeping with the count above, that makes 75?

Man murders his wife at home.

Mean streets or Coronavirus quarantine. Would that be charged to the Coronavirus or to the government mandated quarantine?

76. I know I’m missing some. Murders just aren’t newsworthy anymore. It Coronavirus 24/7 in Houston.

96 murders inside Houston City limits makes it official. You are more likely to be murdered in Houston than die of China Virus. Deaths from China Virus in Harris County is at 89.

Ah hah! Learned something. HPD has completed the switchover from the FBI's Uniform Crime Report (UCR) Program to their newer National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) Statistics system. (HPD's explanation of the switch here.) HPD's reported data is now available as a detailed Excel spreadsheet here: https://www.houstontx.gov/police/cs/Mon ... e_Beat.htm.

It's current through March 31. As of March 31 the data shows 72 "Murder, non-negligent". This topic showed 61 murders as of March 31. Since April 1 we've logged 16 here, so if April really started at 72 instead of 61, and the April count is right, we're actually at 88 right now. We're danged close to the right number, either way.

The spreadsheet breaks things down to HPD beat, zip code, premises type, street name, block number range, and "occurrence hour" rounded to the whole hour. All types of reported crimes are in the spreadsheet (all 52,430 line items so far) and you can select to show all, any single type, or any combination of types of crimes. This is definitely a reporting improvement over what I saw when I last looked at the HPD website, which admittedly was probably over two years ago.

If, like me, you didn't know much about the FBI's change to NIBRS, more info about it here: https://www.fbi.gov/services/cjis/ucr/nibrs.
