Questions about the shooting qualification....
These scenarios may just be in the theoretical, but I want to be prepared for the worst....
1. If you start the shooting qualification with an auto in one caliber and that auto breaks down, can you continue the shooting portion with an auto in a different caliber and still qualify?
2. If you start the shooting qualification with an auto (9mm) and that auto breaks down, can you continue the shooting portion with a revolver in a similar caliber (.38SPL) and still qualify for an auto license?
3. When you shoot an auto, can you have your magazines loaded for the reloads, or must the ammo be loose to demonstrate to the instructor that you can load a mag (something I've heard that one instructor requires)?
Many thanks.....

Yep, as long as it is .32 caliber or larger.seeker_two wrote:These scenarios may just be in the theoretical, but I want to be prepared for the worst....

Nope. In fact, I would make the person redo the entire shooting qual if they switched from semi-auto to revolver or the reverse.2. There is no state requirement that you be able to laod magazines; however, most instructors want empty magazines to begin with as a matter of safety.3. Get a SIG and you won't have to worry about that.seeker_two wrote:2. If you start the shooting qualification with an auto (9mm) and that auto breaks down,

Don't worry about the shooting test, it's a piece of cake.
Hopefully, you have opportunity to make sure your gun is reliable before qualifying with it. If the very unlikely event that it jams or fails to fire for some reason, your instructor should let you clear between strings of fire. This happened to me (forgot to charge the gun before a string of fire

Seems like a large target to me. This was almost as easy as the written test. You should have no problemsatxgun wrote:I just heard from a friend that the target for qualification is ridiculously oversized. Is there any truth to that or is it just the same old silhouette you get at the range?

Don't get too excited, the bull is only 12" by 18" for 5 points a shot.atxgun wrote:Wow, I just looked up the dimension on a b-27 target: Size: 24" x 45". So basically it's wider than the target I'm used to shooting at is tall. I feel more confident now

you get 20 shots from 3 yards,
20 from 7 yards,
10 from 15 yards.
You need a score of 170. Most folks will have that before moving back to fifteen yards.

I'm not excited in the sense that I'm going to the the best shot in the class but w/ 12" x 18" for a 5 point score as you say (which i understood to be the highest score per shot?) I feel pretty good after measuring some of my previous targets around the center w/ a 8.5x11 piece of paper.lrb111 wrote: Don't get too excited, the bull is only 12" by 18" for 5 points a shot.![]()
But seriously, you have a 12x18 window for a perfect score?! It seems like you would have to be drunk, stoned, and unconscious to fail that test then.

There are folks that legitamently can't do it. I know of "one" that could not control his shaking even on his third attempt. That means he could not pass after shooting 150 rounds. (3 trys )
I think anyone on this board would shoot high scores, because they care enough to even be here, and probably practice.
It might be interesting to each of to see what we could do with our weak hand shooting. I know the first time I tried the qualifier with only my left hand, it was going to be a challenge.
