As a land surveyor (past retirement age - still working) I've carried a revolver "in the field" for many, many years. Been through a lot of .38 spl field guns and all the blued ones were kicked out in short order. Running a business and taking care of the field equipment (and every thing else) every day kinda made it hard to deal with the nightly clean/lube the blued revolvers to reduce the certain rusting. I finally settled on nothing but stainless about 15 years ago - S&W and Charter Arms, but wasn't really satisfied. About 10 years ago +/- I was offered a "like new" 1993 Ruger SP-101 - 3" barrel, .357 mag, for a reasonable price and jumped on it. I bought one box of factory .357 mag just for that revolver and immediately bought what I needed to start reloading for it. No telling how many thousand rounds of nothing but reloads have been through that barrel (and quite a few other barrels) since that purchase. And, yep, after 10+ years it's still on the top of my list to be thrown into the box with me for the final ride. It gets carried 5-6 days a week, and only requires a little bit of occasional cleaning, particularly after a once a week range trip.

I realize that being in halfway "rural" East Texas, my life style is not quite the same as "city life". I figure that I'm fortunate that God has smiled on me, on many ways.

These days, depends on how my back is doing. Three surgeries so far....good days, bad days and everything in between. Getting old sucks.
If I'm feeling pretty good, my 4" S&W M25 .45LC would be my choice.
If I am not quite up to that, my M66-no-dash would suffice.
And if my pain level is Wuss Mode, my 642 would get me through the day.

Two S&W Model 19s 2 1/2" .357 most of the time. Depending upon my attire, I would occasionally carry a S&W Model 57 4" instead of one of the Model 19s.

My latest favorite carry revolver is a S&W 625 mountain gun 4" in 45 Colt. I have spotted a S&W 3" 696 44 special that I put on layaway that will probably take that favorite spot. That 3" 5 shot will carry a wee bit better.

The only revolvers I have were my dad's and one of my father in laws. Although, the .357mag Blackhawk is nice it is only single action. I would definitely forget that under stress and only get off one shot.

Besides, I would rather go with the double action Redhawk .44magnum in an OWB leather holster. It is a beast, but a 5.5" barrel IIRC, so not something like Wyatt Earp carried. The last couple times I've had it out I shot it surprisingly well and not just the first shot. Previous times I would shoot the first shots well and then subsequent reloads would begin hurting my hand and accuracy suffered. The last time out it still did, but not nearly as much. It has a Hogue grip on it that I'm okay with, but would like to find something else to try.

So, yeah, .44 magnum for me!

I love revolvers. I found this one at a friend of mines pawn shop. He let me lay-away and I am sure glad he did. It is a S&W 649-3. It is in fantastic shape. It is all stainless steel, but I bet it would still be a little recoil with full .357 magnum loads.

I have a new stainless Taurus 856 with concealed hammer, which I carry in a Barsony leather IWB (appendix carry) or a Barsony nylon pocket holster, loaded with six Gold Dot HP, with two HKS speedloaders in my left front pocket. In the AIWB position, I easily forget it's there. It's an ideal backup gun to my SIG P239 9mm. Recoil is rather hard on my thumb joint, so I wear a thin shooting glove when I practice at the range.

The one I carry most often is the Ruger SP101 DAO .357 snub.

I do carry my S&W Carry Comp. The only holster I have for it is a Cross Breed. I have never really cared for the Cross Breed holsters, but I have to say with this holster it makes this revolver carry well. I do have a a custom TT Gunleather in order.
