Midterm Election

Voted today (Brazoria County). The voting machines looked almost the same but when I signed in to vote, they gave me a full size piece of paper to insert into the voting machine. Once I made my selections, the voting machine printed all of them on the piece of paper. I had to take the piece of paper to another station where my the piece of paper was inserted into different machine and the votes were recorded. The piece of paper stayed in the second machine. I did check to see if everything on the paper was correct before inserting it into the second machine.

Is anyone else experiencing this process? This was new for Brazoria County.

Printed original for you to review. Then scanned for tabulating, then paper original locked away as a record for an audit. Seems pretty foolproof.

Not sure where the counting occurs during scan or initial printing, I assumed during scanning since you can review it. May be counted twice as an audit.

Yes, this is what we use in Harris County. The ‘selection and printing’ machine just helps you fill your ballot in a format that can be read by the actual ‘voting’ machine.

When you insert the printed ballot into the scanner, it tabulates your vote and saves the printed paper for manual recount purposes, if needed later.

The entire system is air-gapped, which means they are not connected to the internet.

At the end of the day, I pull the scanning machine, the ballots, and the iPad e-poll books and return them in person to the county.

Overall, pretty secure at my site. God only knows what they do to it after I drop it off.

And that’s the rub, isn't it? Reminds me of the Battle of Athens, Tennessee. The REAL shenanigans didn’t take place until the "higher authority" confiscated the ballot boxes and brought them to the courthouse for "protection". That’s when a group of men who are among my personal pantheon of heroes stepped in and ended the problem.

One would hope that violence would no longer be required to safeguard the sanctity of the vote…but I grow increasingly skeptical over the years.

This is what I used. They would normally keep backup electronic records in order to make sure everything correlates.

It appears that in the recent past some of the fraud happened between the precinct and county... where the digital "floating point" vote was intercepted, adjusted, and rounded off. Digital voting machines should register votes in "integers" or whole numbers in order to make that kind of thing more difficult.

We've been voting this way for a few years. It's a lot faster than filling in the ovals with a black pen. A couple of years ago the wife and I had to wait while the computers were doing a software update. It doesn't seem safe for that to happen during voting hours.

Yeah, we'd make sort of a party of it, staying up late with snacks and watching the results roll in.

As far as Republicans, I hope they get something done. They have a history of giving fist-thumping speeches, getting elected by excited voters, and then sitting there for 4 years doing nothing. E.g. Trump: "my first day in office, those 'gun free zones' will disappear."
