6.5 Creedmoor at extreme long range

#1

Post by Paladin »

With the growing popularity of the 6.5 Creedmoor, its really interesting to see what these rifles can do:

6.5 Creedmoor at a mile (hits 4 out of 5 shots shown):

6.5 Creedmoor at 3000yards:

I haven't gotten mind out to that distance yet, but these rifles are surprisingly capable.

I don’t know if they’re all good for those kind of extreme ranges, but generally speaking, I’ve been very impressed with the capabilities of all these relatively modern sub-7mm cartridges…6.5 Creedmoor, 6.0 Creedmoor, 6.8 SPC, 6.5 ARC, 6.0 ARC, 6.5 PRC, 6.0 PRC, 6.5 Grendel, etc.

I’m already pretty well invested in .308, and certainly there continue to be good reasons to have one. Unfortunately, I'm not currently in the financial position to buy a new 6.5 Creedmoor or I might well have bought one. What I am considering is building a 6.8 SPC barreled AR-15 upper to use for hunting on one of my lowers. But if I had the lucre, I’d definitely buy a 6.5 Creedmoor bolt gun…not so much because I want to try shooting out to really extreme ranges, but because I’d like to have a flatter-shooting longer range hunting capability without added recoil thump.

In this one they get hits on 24 and 30 inch targets at 2446 yards with a stock Ruger Precision rifle:

I haven't taken mine out that far, but gonna see what I can do with mine on scaled targets next time I'm on the rifle range.

You could go the more budget friendly route like I did and get a Ruger American Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor
