I’ll just have to either bypass ABQ, or make sure to buy gas outside of the city the next time I drive to California. Maybe it’s a good opportunity to explore some the backroads of New Mexico.

The call to impeach is fine, but I hope there is one or more lawsuits filed soon. A partisan push to impeach by the party in the minority will go nowhere, and if there aren't repercussions like having to battle a constitutional infringement lawsuit in the courts, this might give other governors the bright idea that they can get away with this, too.

It was much worse during Katrina, but at least that was done under an existing emergency declaration...still absolutely wrong, but at least wasn't just on the whim of a governor who decided over corn flakes and coffee one morning that it would be fun to do. For background, reading about House bill H.R. 5013 introduced the March after Katrina, in 2006, is pretty informative: https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/CRE ... g15747.htm.

(1) The Second Amendment to the Constitution states that a
"well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of
a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms,
shall not be infringed'', and Congress has repeatedly
recognized this language as protecting an individual right.

(2) In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, State and local law
enforcement and public safety service organizations were
overwhelmed and could not fulfill the safety needs of the
citizens of the State of Louisiana.

(3) In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the safety of these
citizens, and of their homes and property, was threatened by
instances of criminal activity.

(4) Many of these citizens lawfully kept firearms for the
safety of themselves, their loved ones, their businesses, and
their property, as guaranteed by the Second Amendment, and
used their firearms, individually or in concert with their
neighbors, for protection against crime.

(5) In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, certain agencies
confiscated the firearms of these citizens in contravention
of the Second Amendment, depriving these citizens of the
right to keep and bear arms and rendering them helpless
against criminal activity.

(6) These confiscations were carried out at gunpoint by
nonconsensual entries into private homes, by traffic
checkpoints, by stoppage of boats, and otherwise by force.

(7) The citizens from whom firearms were confiscated were
either in their own homes or attempting to flee the flooding
and devastation by means of motor vehicle or boat, and were
accosted, stopped, and arbitrarily deprived of their private
property and means of protection.

I'm not sure, but I think that bill ended up stalling out and going nowhere. Texas, though, introduced and passed its own bill to prevent that sort of...stuff from happening here.

Also, this next one is just an example, but there have been multiple calls for her arrest. Of course, being a dem, she’s Teflon; but it COULD end with her losing reelection.


It’s also worth noting that the chief of the ABQ PD has reassured his officers that state police will be enforcing this fascist move, and that his officers can stick to their regular job of enforcing the law.

Sounds like the pushback has already started, including the Bernalillo County District Attorney, the Mayor and the Police Chief:

"....Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman, who once served as a Democratic party leader and was appointed by Lujan Grisham, on Saturday joined Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller and Police Chief Harold Medina saying they wouldn’t enforce the order.

“As an officer of the court, I cannot and will not enforce something that is clearly unconstitutional,” said Bregman, the top prosecutor in the Albuquerque area. “This office will continue to focus on criminals of any age that use guns in the commission of a crime.”

Actually, it sounds like the only confusion is in the governor’s office. When even top democrat state party officials are saying that they’re not only not going to enforce the EO because it is CLEARLY unconstitutional, most of them aren’t confused at all.

Strange that the governor deems it perfectly OK to violate the 2nd Amendment, but never gave second thought to putting out a mandate for police to initiate a stop and frisk policy which would actually be effective. Clearly that would be a challenge to the 4th Amendement and a violation, but if you're going to treat the Constitution like a roll of toilet paper anyway, why not? It could actually work to reduce shootings. Maybe because the agenda has noting to do with stopping violence, but rather to further erode the 2nd and use power to subjugate her subjects. In reality not strange at all I suppose.

Six lawsuits have been filed opposing her action.

One of them is by a private individual, not an individual(s) plus gun rights group(s). It is my understanding that the last legislature, at the bidding of the same governor, did away with qualified immunity at the state level, so the governor can be sued personally for her official transgressions, which may be what the individual lawsuit is about. heh heh.
