Agreed. In a country surrounded by other countries who have explicitly stated their desire is to wipe your country from the map, why would the government not want every Israeli citizen armed? The only reason I can think of is their fear that along with Israeli Jews, Christians and agnostics they would also be arming Israeli Muslims. Which is irrational at best.

US should emulate Israel's strict gun control laws ( after Newtown mass shooting).
Lots of articles praising Israel strict gun control laws on line. I could not find anything about gun laws in the '70's in Israel. I think it changed over time. I feel it was not strict at all back then, and that Israeli men and women carried and were excellent shooters, but I cannot find anything to back up my memory.
From Times of Israel:
“Approximately three years ago, the IDF began taking away firearms from some of these security teams due to the repeated theft of such weapons.
Hebrew news outlets reported on the problem back in 2021, and members of some of the teams have told the media in the last few days that they were essentially unarmed during Hamas’s invasion.
Members of such a team told the Calcalist newspaper on Sunday that they had engaged Hamas terrorists armed with just pistols, while the terrorists bore assault rifles, grenades and anti-tank missiles.
“The IDF took our rifles recently, they left us with just a few. We repelled a Hamas commando terror cell with just pistols,” one said.”
Brave men. Plus I assume they only had 50 rounds each.

Meet the 25 yo woman who saved her kibbutz. Killed 5 terrorists in her own. Her security team killed another 20.

I do, but he is a tour guide living in Makhtesh Ramon, not a news source.RoyGBiv wrote: ↑Tue Oct 10, 2023 4:55 amDo you have a source for this? I was not able to locate one.. Re: Carrying a gun in Israel
Former PM Naftali Bennett on arming the citizenry.
Translated from Hebrew by
Give guns to the settlements, immediately.
I try not to make public demands to the government but only through quiet channels, but this issue is essential to saving lives and unfortunately I can hardly move:
The Israeli government must immediately equip every locality and every neighborhood in Israel with long weapons and small arms so that standby units can fight.
I fear attacks from less expected directions. It can be in Kochav Yair, Meshgav or Rabavid.
We have citizens who were regular fighters, brave and ready to fight, but without weapons and ammunition they cannot.
Prioritize, of course, fence-adjacent settlements in the north and south, settlements adjacent to the separation fence for the Jewish Community, the Jewish Community communities themselves, communities in the Galilee, and more.
Here's a fact you should know:
Those who actually fought and repelled the enemy in the settlements were *the standby classes *.
In some cases with complete success: Nir Am, Alumim, Saad, Mefalsim and more, in some unfortunately the standby squad fought and fell in battle (Kfar Gaza, Bari and more).
The residents of the settlement are the ones who stopped with their own hands. bravely
IDF forces arrived much later. Sometimes at 12:30 sometimes at 14:30 (the attack started at 6:30 in the morning).
There is no more successful, experienced force that knows the settlement better than the residents themselves.
Give us guns, today.
I am not a lawyer. This is NOT legal advice.!

Global day of rage on Friday the 13th called by Hamas leader.
Friday the 13 th was when the Pope had all the Templar Knights killed. Not really a Catholic holy day.

German young woman at music festival that was paraded through Gaza, was found beheaded. Not sure if this was the woman who was in the back of the pick up truck naked.

Oh how it’s changed. No longer being sheep.
Yep. Polls show 75 percent of Israelis calling for {Netanyahu} to resign now or be replaced when the fighting stops. They know that the government isn't going to protect them. The Israeli government received 255,000 gun license applications after the Oct. 7. attack.

The Israelis had their noses rubbed in the fact that the government won't / can't protect them. They know that the government isn't going to protect them.
