Just found the site this morning while surfing around looking for a Ruger SP101, and what a find!. GREAT site you have here.

I live here in Beaumont and have been shooting all my life on a hobby basis. I've carried concealed since about 1980 and received my CHL within a few months of them being available here in Texas. I kept my license current for many years, but, like a fool, let it expire a couple of years ago.

I snapped out of my stupor (stupid) and re-applied this year. My primary carry is a Smith 642 with Hogue monogrips in a SmartCarry. When circumstances prevent me from using the SmartCarry, I slip a NAA .22mag w/folding grip into my pocket.
Hey, it's better than a set of car keys in my fist, right?

I tried carrying a Glock 26 in the SmartCarry, but the grip was a little too thick for that carry method, and since it is the only method I can use (for reasons I can't discuss here), I sold it for the slimmer 642 Smith.

The buy/sell/trade bug has bit me, though. Now I'm considering a Ruger SP101 .357 snub. Years ago I sold a 3" Speed Six in .357 and after a little trigger work I could shoot it pretty darned good.

I look forward to getting to know you folks here and learning as much as I can from your experiences.

Thanks longtooth, didn't know if your handle was the same on this forum or not.

In High School I played Trumpet, and learned Bass Guitar. Played in the AC Jazz Band for about a year and a half, and Trumpet in the Concert Band for 2 semesters. Don't play too much anymore, sold my good jazz bass, and trumpet, still have a bass on hand, mainly sentimental value, self defretted, Jaco styled (kudos if you know who I am talking about). Was just taking general music classes, composing, styles, instruments, learned very little piano. Dropped classes due to a work move, then quit that job after no help from corporate, Carmike Cinemas btw. Met my wife at college though, and moved back to my family's company, and now I am moving up in the ranks. Had my AutoCad Mechanical installed this last week, will be taking a few classes to learn some tricks soon.

gorgeous bass doc, here is my old one I sold
Amer. Delx. Jazz Ash Body Aged Cherry Burst, loved it, played through an Ampeg Tube Preamp, through the schools amp. Preamp makes the difference.




The one I still have is the defretted, Std Jazz Sage Green, w/ Fender American Jazz Pickups.

BTW, I am a bass player too.

My current player is a Fender P-bass deluxe Lyte. I like it because it is so light to carry and you can strap it on all day without ending up hunchbacked.

Maybe we need to start a Texas CHL forum band?

There's at least one other six-string player here. Been playing guitar since 1963 (you'd think I'd be better by now), play in the praise band at church, and in Praise & Worship Club at work (Johnson Space Center). Gibson electrics and Taylor acoustics.
