The way it looks to me is the writer of the article was trying to summarize to get a brief description of the event as a teaser in the first sentence. That draws the readers attention to the things that went on for those that skim read the headline and first couple of sentences of articles as a lead in and will hopefully hook them into reading the rest.

Good Job........
However I do think the clerk needs to spend more time at the range to better his accuracy.

When I was a pre-teen, I used to go around houston all the time in my camo ski mask (when it was colder than usual). Thanks god I was never shot.
