What's the safest way to wear a holster?
I bought an inside-the-pant retention strap holster for my wife's Berretta Tomcat. She's right handed. Is the gun worn with the grip facing her right hand or is it turned the other way? Is the holster placed mid-back or slightly toward the right side?

There's no one right answer. The majority of right-handed shooters wear the pistol between 3 and 5 o'clock (that is, on the right hip) with the grip facing the rear. This method allows the fastest presentation.
Some people choose cross-draw, small-of-back, and other variations; but iMHO they make it more difficult to draw and increase the likelihood of covering unintended targets.
Again IMHO, retention straps are not needed for concealed carry. They can slow down the draw. The holster should be tight enough to retain the pistol even upside-down.

Like Seamus said, there is no one right answer.
MrsFosforos likes to carry her pistols at 2 o clock (also known as Appendix Carry). This works rather well with small pistols like the Tomcat, but everyone's body is different, so your mileage way vary. The SmartCarry pouch is an alternative if other IWB holsters don't meet your needs.

You seem to be referring to MOB (behind the back, grip towards hand) carry. Most folks wear it slightly towards their strongside so as to be able to reach it. It's not always a comfortable carry, particularly when sitting or driving, and it does make it Cavalry Draw. The first person the gun points at is you.wdampier wrote:I bought an inside-the-pant retention strap holster for my wife's Berretta Tomcat. She's right handed. This was my choice. The Kel-Tec, when I carry it, is in a Galco paddle holster, about 3:30, grip to the rear. The CZ rides in the same location and orientation, in a Comp-Tac CTAC IWB holster, unless I choose to use a belt slide (still between 3:00 and 3:30, though). While the "Cavalry Draw" looked cool on TV in the fifties (mostly Rin-Tin-Tin), it's not comfortable for the wrist, or for the fact that your muzzle is covering your leg for the first part of the draw stroke. MHO. YMMV.seamusTX wrote:There's no one right answer. The majority of right-handed shooters wear the pistol between 3 and 5 o'clock (that is, on the right hip) with the grip facing the rear.
