I took the CHL renewal class recently with Jeff Johnson and enjoyed it. He is a good instructor and kept the class moving along so it did not get boring.

If you work or live in the vicinity of Top Gun, I highly recommend getting involved in one or more of their shooting groups. Comp-Tac and Hoffner's each conduct evening (7-9pm) sessions about once per week.

I am an employee at Top Gun in Houston and really appreciate all the positive comments. The issue with aluminum?steel case rounds is an issue with recycling, thats all. Jeff is a great guy and i encourage anyone looking for a place to take their CHL to give Top Gun a try.

My wife and I have been going to Top Gun for over a year now, and have nothing but excellent things to say about the owner and staff.

After a few "too close to home" burglaries in our neighborhood last year, I told her that I wanted her to know how to handle and shoot a gun. She went down to Top Gun a few days later, took their introductory handgun class, and had a blast. A week or so later, we went back so she could pick out a gun, and a couple of their employees spent over an hour answering every single question she had, letting her handle multiple guns, explaining differences, and so forth - never once getting annoyed with her basic questions. I was so impressed with their behavior that I ended up buying my Glock 17 from them as well - their prices are higher than other stores in town or Internet/mailorder, but I'm glad to pay extra to support good people working at local businesses. We had monthly passes for a few months after that (till they stopped offering them last fall), and go there around once a month now. I also bought the lower receiver for my AR-15 from them; my only complaint is their $50 FFL transfer fee otherwise they'd be my "one stop gun shop".

Yesterday, I signed up for the CHL class there this Saturday (June 28th). Will report in tomorrow night.

6/28/08 Update: Class today was GREAT (and everyone passed). Dan Blackford was the instructor, and he was WONDERFUL.
No problems on the range or in the classroom, and he had a perfect balance of seriousness, humor, and stories to tell that related to what was being taught.

Two thumbs up for Top Gun's Saturday all-day class.
