Judging by the apparent attitude of the officer, I wouldnt be surprised if there have been other complaints/incidents related to his hot headedness. hope I spelled that right.

Unless you've been informed [by DPS via mail] requesting you turn in your CHL, then you haven't been affected. I was in a similar situation, and I think DPS is required to inform you 30 days after the incident and you have 10 days to surrender the license. -- If you haven't been notified, then you're okay.

IANAL, but I would keep on carrying.

P.S. - Always report Cops for anything and everything. It's the only way you can keep them in line.

This shows another good reason to have a license from another state.
We're here. With gear. Get used to it.

This is a very interesting thought and something I have never thought about nor have I seen it discussed. I may start another thread.

That's great. We all want to get a warning when we get pulled over for minor traffic violations, but by gawd lets keep these cops in line!

Did you read his original thread from October? http://www.texasshooting.com/TexasCHL_F ... lit=jhutto

Dipstick cop filed a bogus report on him and jhutto knew nothing about it because he didn't report the dipstick cop.

If he's out of line, it needs to be reported. In this case, it really seems the officer was out of line.

If we want to get a warning when we mess up, why wouldn't we want police to get a warning when they mess up?

I don't know. I have bits and pieces of one side of the story. As we all know there is more than one side to every story.

I don't dissagree that if a cop does something wrong it should be addressed, but this particular statement bothers me. I know I would personally be cited daily for some infraction if anything and everythin I did was reported...

I see a difference between giving a warning and "reporting anything and everything" to "keep them in line".

Yes, I read the entire thing. I would like to hear the same story told by "dipstick" before I pass judgment on him... And yes, in hindsight the OP should have followed up with the PD on this incident.

We get pulled over for everything, to keep us in line. When we receive a warning that is the equivalent of an informal complaint (perhaps a call to his supervisor to complain) and a ticket is the equivalent of a formal, written, complaint on the officer.

Cops need a check on their power, citizen complaints are that check.

I dont think anyone here would disagree that an officer who is courteous deserves a call to his supervisor, one who is discourteous deserves nothing less.

I will partially disagree.

If everyone who is stopped by an officer calls, good or bad, the supervisor will not be able to do his job. A shift supervisor may have 8-10 or more patrolmen under his purview. If each one only made 3 stops a day, that is 30 calls or emails that the supervisor has to handle.

I would say if a LEO does an OUTSTANDING job or a bad job then call. My view is if I am not getting calls, my team members are doing their jobs at average or above. Complements are reserved for exceptional performance and complaints are for poor performance.

What about "legally I cant tell you"?
There are only two problems with that response.

1) It's absolutely not true.

2) It is absurd.

I think it it tiltled APD.

Anyone know any attourneys who are familiar with the gun law, work in Travis county courts, and a darn good?
Any reccomendations are appreciated.
I guess I must have missed a relevant post or thread. Do I take it that the APD cop that jhutto got mixed up with last Fall subsequently filed a formal charge against him, and that jhutto did not receive notification of same? That sounds pretty confusing. How is one supposed to respond to a charge that one is not informed about?

And the cop is saying that when he flashed his badge, jhutto flashed his gun?????

That sounds pretty weird.
