TX, I understand that, but something still appears amock bigtime there. For the kind of $ that we pay for the certificates and $ that students pay for the license, "customer service" should be better than that. If we ran our businesses in such a manner, we would be OUT of business pretty quickly - unless we were the only game in town (which they obviously are).

Another of their "efficiences" that I suspect is beyond Marion is the 1:1 ratio of mailed certificates to mailed packets (to instructors). I got in a fresh batch of certificates a couple of weeks ago, but still no matching packets (still with the OLD law booklets?) have hit the mailbox.

But, hey, like many, I don't really need 'em (except for some NEW law books) due to the build-up of boxes of 'em not needed by all of last year's students who already had theirs via intenet applications (and EXPENSIVE solo mailings).

It's amazing sometimes to me, within the Department, the differences in not just efficiencies, but ATTITUDE. But ... I best get off the soap box and find a fresh cup of coffee ...
I agree 100%!!

Yesterday, I received certificates and TR-100s that were ordered Jan 30. Still no packages. If we were going to have to stock a 60 day supply to keep ourselves in business, if would have been nice if the DPS had shared that up front!

I am thinking the same thing, We should have been notified when they went to that policy.
It's not a problem if we know what to expect, right now I am OK but by a narrow margin, I ordered early and doubled my order last time, when I recieve it I will be in better control of thing's.

I have lot's of packet's if I can help any of you.

I think I see something else to address in 2007. There's no reason why instructors can't just submit an affidavit that the requirements of §______ have been met. There's no need for any certificate (DPS gets plenty of money from the fees; they don't need the extra $5) or anything beyond an affidavit.

The only downside to getting something like this passed is that it delves into an area typically reserved for regulations implementing a statute.

Regards,
Chas.

I have no idea what purpose the certificate serves, The TR100 is an affidavit certifying they have met the requirements.

If for what ever reason the DPS need's us to give out a certificate with their # on it, I will make the certificates just give me the #'s. although I see no need for the certificate #. I think it would be better to have their CHL license # on the TR100 and the class completion form.

BSC -

Sorry to hear of your ongoing delay.

Once everything is "in the system", rejected (manual method) fingerprints are another very common cause for delays - where you certainly deserve no more.

If not already, you might check into http://www.identix.com/iis/locations_tx.html. Also a new link explaining it on DPS web site.

The "FAST" program has been pending for years and finally contracted last August. It would have been nice of them to let us instructors know about its upcoming implementation in the renewal schools that we completed last fall. Many may only get to wait another 18 months before hearing it from the horse's mouth ...

Well I'm not sure what to think now, because the last order took so long I immediately ordered another 100 certificates, that was on March 9th, I got them in today, eight days!

I am going to order again right away, the way things are going I will feel better to stay ahead of them.

Lets stay in touch on this and keep things like this in our discussion, knowing what's going on will surely help.

As of today, still no packages received from my Jan 30 order. Did you receive certificates only? Or did you get packages too?

No packets just the certificates and TR100's, the packets are usually several days behind.

It seems to me the DPS could save a bunch of money by putting most of this process on line.

The TR100 is just a form, and by putting it on line for instructors (they already have tight access security) it could simply be printed as needed in PDF format. The colors of forms is unimportant because the only color that makes any difference is white for the DPS.

An instructor could simply pay on line and be assigned a block of certificate numbers. The actual student certificate could also be on line and the instructor could print them as well and put the number on them.

After the class, the instructor should be able to access a data base and then enter the information about the students passing. On line entry by instructors would prevent DPS from having to manually enter data and allow their workers to concentrate on processing applications, print cards, background checks etc.

DPS could save both time and money by automating the process... it is hopeless as it is. Off the shelf software is available to do what is needed.
