Fingerprints

#1

Post by Ninjaneer »

So, I get todays mail and low and behold I get a packet from DPS. Too big and too soon for plastic as I just got my PIN recently. Yup, it turns out the blue card (FBI) prints were not good enough. Heck, a law enforcement officer took them. So now I am hit with this delay.

They gave me two new blue cards and a flyer for a FAST service (digital scanning?). Has anyone gone to one of these FAST locations? I am in Houston, it seems all/most of the FAST locations are in the same building/location? Are there any alternatives? Could I go to a police station/sheriff's office and get them done? What's the best solution here?

Anything I should be cautious of when sending them back (signatures of who is printing me, etc)? Luckily, my belt and holsters are almost here, so whenever this setback is done and over with, my application can finish up processing. Hope they dont halt the whole process while waiting for FBI.

What was the timeframe from submission of app to print rejection?

Here's the timeframe:
DPS received app: 3/6
PIN received: 4/29 (4/23 date on letter from DPS)
NEW fingerprints request received: 5/16 (5/14 date on letter from DPS)

I scheduled an appt for to a FAST place for Wednesday (open M-F, but I have some work stuff on Mon and Tues that i dont want to miss). I'll try to follow up how it goes.

as soon as those prints are done I'm heading straight to the nearest post office and get the delivery confirmation on it when I send it away.

I went to have my prints done at a FAST location for my Class A CDL and it was awsome. quick and cheap. well worth it. I'm convinced my print for the CHL are gonna come back rejected (when they start working on my packet). My CHL prints were done by a retired LEO with an ink pad and it took 30 minutes (SEROIUSLY!) the prints just weren't working out. my hands were sweating and the prints wouldn't come out good. After holding up the rest of class for a really long time the guy put that "best obtainable prints" sticker on them and said they'de be fine. I belived him then, but now that I've read all this stuff on this forum I'm paranoid that they'll be rejected. I would recomend digital FAST fingerprinting hands down every time no question.
03/05/08 Took CHL Class
03/10/08 Mailed Packet
06/10/08 Received Pin
07/02/08 Licensed, Cocked, and Locked

About the 63 day mark I got a letter and packet from DPS saying that my prints weren't good enough. I got re-fingerprinted and I am waiting. I spoke to them and they toldl me that my time starts over. I'm still waiting. (total time 85+ days)

My father who took his class the same day and we both sent our packets in at the same time.. Just got a letter saying that he was missing information. (this is after we called and spoke to them, they told him his packet.. paperwork was ok)
This is 85+ days and then he got a letter.

I know they are pretty busy there in Austin but something seems fishy. I'm not sure if they use this "rejection" as a means to buy them MORE time.

You're lucky. The only FAST place in San Antonio that's convent to me is usually booked 3-4 weeks out. I didn't want to take the time off to go to the other's so I didn't check.

Jmorris, where are you looking to get your prints done at? Your profile says that you are on the northeast side of San Antonio. Have you looked at Region 20, they are on 1-35 by Ft. Sam. They do the prints there. Thats where my wife got hers done for her nurses test.

Already done, and that's where I got mine. When I signed up back in March, I had to wait slightly over two weeks for an appointment, and there were just a couple slots open that day. Wasn't anything available for the week after. Maybe I just hit a really bad time.

Evidently so. I just went and checked to see what it's like and there's great gobs of appointments open in the next two weeks. That's my usual luck.

Well, I've had to postpone my trip to the FAST place. I got a little boo-boo on on finger that resulted in a blister. So I have to wait out a few more days so it looks 100% again. I dont want to get those set rejected because of a little nick/blister.

On a positive note, my order from Milt Sparks arrived today!

APPLICANTS - listen up. :fire

Get on the internet, look up the nearest FAST fingerprint store for CHL applicants. Having determined the nearest site - run, don't walk and have them do your prints. It costs $10 and might possibly save you literally months of anguish and :banghead:

Not sure if they would do this where you are -

I walked right into the SAPD Headquarters Downtown - no appt. and within 25-30 minutes - I walked out with scanned fingerprints..... :thumbs2:
